Sonia Gandhi’s masterplan to retain Rajasthan and control Congress party with a Gehlot remote

Gehlot Congress

What happens when a dynast wants to pass on the load? The ruler picks an obedient, docile, indebted Yes Man, who despite being in the power will obey the ruler. Something of the similar fashion is going to happen in Congress. The major difference is, Sonia Gandhi is determined to kill many birds with just one stone.

Sonia Gandhi to pass on the baton

The old Lion of the party will take care of it; suggest media reports. Or the other way round, the political nobody is busy hiring a Yes Man, apt to say another Manmohan Singh for the high post.

We are talking about Sonia Gandhi and the buzz around Ashok Gehlot being appointed as Congress chief. The Congress will elect its new party president by September 21.

According to media sources, incumbent President Sonia Gandhi met with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot behind closed doors on Tuesday and asked him to take over.

Hours after the meeting, Congress announced that Sonia Gandhi and both of her children will travel abroad for her medical care. The timing of this visit has raised eyebrows because it is scheduled right before the presidential election.

Ashok Gehlot prostrates at the ‘lotus-feet’ of Rahul Gandhi

It has always been a Gandhi at the forefront of Congress affairs so far. However, this may alter now that Rahul Gandhi has declined to retake the reins after leaving government in the 2019 general elections and Sonia Gandhi has health issues.

While it may soothe many to hear that a non-Gandhi will lead the Congress, Ashok Gehlot, the one whose name is being furthered, is busy prostrating at the lotus-feet of the Gandhi scion.

“I have been saying this repeatedly that Congress will revive only if Rahul Gandhi ji takes over,” Mr. Gehlot told reporters at the Delhi airport while heading to Ahmedabad after meeting Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi plans to handover Rajasthan to Pilot

The first aim of Sonia Gandhi in this dilapidated time is to seat someone adherent of the Sonia Gandhi’s school of loyalty at the top position. While many might miss, Sonia is planning the whole game in a way that she can accommodate Sachin Pilot.

The timing has also played a crucial role, as assembly elections are due in Rajasthan for 2023. The constant tussle between CM Ashok Gehlot and State President Sachin Pilot is no longer a secret.

If Ashok Gehlot moves to the central leadership, the state will be served to Pilot on a golden platter. This seems to be Sonia Gandhi’s plan of action.

So, if chosen will Ashok Gehlot prove to be a saviour for an imploding Congress? Can Gehlot bail out the Gandhis? Only time can tell. We can be sure of the fact that if elected, Ashok Gehlot will turn out to be Manmohan Singh 2.0 and Gandhis will be able to retain Sachin Pilot.
