The problems for Aamir Khan do not seem to end any time soon. His recently released ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is a colossal disaster. The fans who made him the star he is today, has now begun boycotting him. Netflix also cancelled Aamir Khan. Now, his upcoming project titled Moghul that was based on Gulshan Kumar’s life has also been shelved.
Biopic of Gulshan Kumar put on backburner
Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha met with a poor response from the audience. After the release, he was supposed to move on to his next which is Gulshan Kumar’s biopic Mogul. Given the audience’s response to the latest release and controversies around Aamir, the film has been put on the back burner.
According to the latest reports, the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha is the primary reason behind Mogul being shelved. While the makers of Mogul have decided to postpone it for an indefinite period, it is yet to be announced whether Mogul is shelved or their deal with Aamir is still on.
A report quoted an anonymous as saying, “The makers of Mogul are reconsidering their decision and might shelve it completely. This has come days after Aamir’s highly-anticipated film Laal Singh Chaddha released. Unfortunately, despite being a near-perfect adaptation of Forrest Gump, it failed to click at the box office. The poor box office response reportedly forced the makers of Mogul to shelve it indefinitely.”
Aamir Khan – a miscasting
Gulshan Kumar Dua was the son of a street vendor who sold fruit juice on the streets of Darya Ganj, in Delhi. Gulshan Kumar achieved success with his dedication. From the streets of Delhi, he became the Cassette King. His perspective towards life and music did not go very well with the Bollywood underworld, which believed that he was an obstacle to their larger anti-Hindu propaganda and thus, started harassing him in all possible ways.
After all this, isn’t it tragic that we only have someone like Aamir Khan to do a biopic on the late religious music baron Gulshan Kumar? Amir Khan’s anti-Hindu agenda is well known in Bollywood with movies like PK, through which he has attacked the Hindu faith time and again.
These actors should be considered
Now that the biopic of Gulshan Kumar is believed to be shelved and the speculations that Aamir Khan is the reason for the same, it is time for the makers to rethink about replacing Aamir with an actor who is better than the so-called Mr Perfectionist. Here are our 5 recommendations whom we believe that they will justify the iconic character of Bhushan Kumar.
- Paresh Rawal: Paresh Rawal is the most underrated actor of Bollywood. The acting prowess of Mr Rawal is enough to explain what a great and versatile actor he is. There have been hardly any time when his portrayal of the characters in the film has been criticised. He is regarded as one of the finest character actors of present times. Paresh Rawal has never gone wrong with any role, be it comic, negative or drama. Be it Uncle Mambo in Garam Masala or Leela in Malamal Weekly or Radhesham Tiwari in Hungama or Teja in Andaaz Apna Apna , his performnaces has always been unbeatable. Babu Rao Ganpat Rao Apte in Hera Pheri is still one of the most loved character and all because of the acting skills of Paresh Rawal.
- Pankaj Kapoor: The actor’s acting skills speak for itself. A powerhouse of talent, Pankaj is widely respected for his commitment towards good Indian cinema. The Indian express, while praising Pankaj for his talent, wrote, “He’s the actor’s actor, Bollywood’s Brando who can dazzle you with his understated menace (Maqbool), dead-face humour (Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and Office Office, the TV show) or drunken buffoonery (Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola).”
- Kumud Mishra: If you have seen the films such as Rockstar, Filmistaan, Sultan, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Tiger Zinda Hai, Article 15 and Thappad, you must have come across one of the most commercial actors in Bollywood. He is Kumud Mishra. the roles he has played in the last few years are memorable and of incredible range. There have been hardly any characters played by him which are not convincing.
- Manoj Pahwa: He started his acting career from television. From acting in iconic television shows like Hum Log to being part of big-budget films, Manoj Pahwa has seen it all. He has been typecast as the ‘father of the bride’ or the ‘jolly boss’, but his acting skills are way beyond these films. Watch all his films and you’ll realise that what a phenomenal actor he is.
- Raghubir Yadav: Raghubir Yadav has been a part of the acting business for 37 years. During these years, he has been a part of dozens of critically acclaimed films like Salaam Bombay, Maya Memsaab, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda,Bandit Queen, Sardar, Khamoshi, Dil Se, Lagaan, Firaaq, Peepli Live and Gandhi To Hitler and Newton. Moreover, both Salaam Bombay and Lagaan hold an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 1989 and 2002 respectively. However, it was only after the release of the series ‘Panchayat’ on Amazon Prime that he was recognised by the audience and people started loving him as actor. He is an ardent theatre performer which reflects in his characters.
Aamir Khan is not the right person who should have been even approached for the biopic of Gulshan Kumar. He never was. However, the makers now have an opportunity to correct their mistakes and for this, someone who completely justifies the role of Gulshan Kumar, should be roped in for the movie.
