No land for Tribals and the Oppressed – A heartless CM Soren makes it clear

Jharkhand tribal

It seems that the administration is missing in Jharkhand. Reportedly, the CM has gone to picnic, with party MLAs, to strategize on how to rescue his political career. Meanwhile, the law-and-order situation in the state is worsening day by day. A minor school girl, Ankita was burnt alive by an Islamic Jihadi. The inactions of the Police, as well as the state government, in this case, have raised several questions. Before the matter could reach its logical conclusion, the state has been shocked by yet another case which highlighted the government’s apathy towards the hapless people.

A mass exodus of Dalits from Jharkhand Village

A shocking case of mass discrimination has come to the fore from the state of Jharkhand. On 30th August, around 50 families of the Dalit community were driven out from the Murumatu village.

As per media reports, all the victims belong to the “Mushar” community. They were residing in the area for more than four decades. However, members of a particular community from Jharkhand’s Palamu district forcefully drove them out.

Top Police officials have rushed to maintain the law and order situation. A Police official informed that a criminal case has been filed against 12 named individuals. Additionally, 150 unnamed have been booked in this discriminatory case of forceful mass exodus.

Governor Ramesh Bais expressed concern over this mass discrimination. He sought a detailed report from Palamu’s Deputy Commissioner, A Dodde. According to a statement made by Raj Bhavan, DC A Dodde must submit his report within two days.

However, the accused claim that the land, on which Dalits resided, belongs to an educational institution. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Surjit Kumar stated that the accused have been asked to produce documents to prove their claim.

Diverting Tribal land to near and dear ones

In the past, the Jharkhand government has been accused of illegally usurping tribal land for their personal gain. It was alleged that Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, misused power as the Minister of Industries and allotted tribal land to his relatives and associates. Allegedly, he allotted 11 acres of tribal land to a firm owned by his wife Kalpana Soren. The land was supposed to be for a meat-processing plant. Another 11 acres in Sahibganj was allotted to Shivshakti Enterprises, owned by Abhishek Prasad alias Pintu.

Further, six acres of tribal land was allotted to a company named Mahakal Stone Works in Sahibganj. This company belongs to Pankaj Mishra, CM’s local representative.

These anti-tribal and anti-Dalit cases expose the hypocrisy of the Soren Jharkhand government on its stand on issues affecting oppressed and backward classes. The Jharkhand government which came to power pledging to save ‘Jal, Jungle and Jameen’ (forest, water and land) has betrayed the same tribal people of the state.
