Manish Sisodia and All India B*****d – What a combo Sirji!

It is rightly said that birds of a feather flock together. This is why it is easy to judge someone’s character by analysing his/her friend circle. Apparently, the new revelations by CBI have shed more light on the company of the Aam Aadmi Party. Several of the party gems are now out in the open. It seems as if the party is rich in diversity from rioters like Tahir Hussain and Amanatullah Khan to alleged corruption ‘kingpins’ like Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia. Now it seems that the party is “cleaning” the comedy sphere as well.

Official details of the case

On 19th of August, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided 31 locations in Delhi including the official residence of Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. The agency carried out these raids in connection with Excise policy 2021-2022. As per media reports, CBI seized incriminating documents/articles and digital records in these raids. It is alleged that favours were taken for framing and implementing the new Excise policy.

The CBI then filed an FIR. It has charged 15 persons under various sections of Indian Penal Code related to criminal conspiracy and Prevention of Corruption Act. The FIR has accused that officials took autocratic decisions for the Excise policy. They didn’t seek approval of the competent authority, allegedly to extend undue favours to the licences post tender.

The key officials accused in the case include DCM Manish Sisodia; Arva Gopi Krishna, then Commissioner (Excise); Anand Tiwari, then Deputy Commissioner (Excise); and Pankaj Bhatnagar, Assistant Commissioner (Excise).

The FIR has named Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia as the number one accused in the Excise Policy case. As per latest media reports, the CBI has issued a Look out Circular (LOC) against Manish Sisodia and other accused in the case. He has been barred from travelling abroad.

The agency further claimed that Liquor trader Sameer Mahendru paid Rs 5 crores to associates of DCM Manish Sisodia. The CBI stated, “Sameer Mahendru, MD, lndospirits, has transferred an amount of Rs 1 crore to account no. 10220210004647 of Radha Industries maintained with UCO Bank, Rajendra Place, New Delhi. Radha Industries is being managed by Dinesh Arora.” It is claimed that Dinesh Arora is an associate of DCM Manish Sisodia.

Additionally, FIR alleged that accused Arun Ramchandra Pillai collected “undue pecuniary advantage from Mahendru. He then routed this to accused public servant through Vijay Nair.”

The CBI added that Sisodia’s associate Arjun Pandey allegedly collected around Rs 2 crores-Rs 4 crores in cash from Mahendru on behalf of accused Vijay Nair.

It is important to note that Vijay Nair was the former CEO of Only Much Louder, an entertainment and event management company.

Drunkards’ money funding “Comedy”

The CBI alleged that Vijay Nair in connivance with other co-accused framed and implemented the excise policy. This policy had several irregularities to say the least.

As per the FIR “Nair was actively involved in irregularities in framing and implementation of excise policy of GNCTD of Delhi for the year 2021-22.”

It is important to note that Vijay Nair has been associated with the AAP party as early as 2014. He claimed to reach out to musicians to spread AAP’s work and message. Reportedly, during the 2020 Delhi state assembly elections, he organised events for AAP. He also managed the party’s social media handles. Nair was also accused of sexual harassment.

Additionally, Vijay Nair was the CEO of the event management company that managed shows of “comedy” groups like East India Comedy and All India Bakchod (AIB).

The CBI FIR clearly states that Vijay Nair played a key role in the controversial Excise Policy 2021-2022, which was later rolled back in hest when a probe was ordered. It is alleged that he used this “liquor” money in organising comedy and other events. Further, his close links with AAP emphasises the saying that likeminded people remain in a close company. The excise policy has thus shed light on this new gem of Aam Aadmi Party Vijay Nair. Through Nair the AAP is doing the same thing with comedy that it has done with politics.
