However, the golden days are coming to an end, as the voting for presidential polls has been summarised and reports suggest that Sinha is done and dusted even before the results of the presidential polls are out.
Main takeaways from the presidential polls
The nation voted on Monday, July 18, for the election of the next president of India. The fight was between NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu and Opposition’s joint candidate Yashwant Sinha. The counting will be held on July 21 and the 15th President of India will take oath on July 25, as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission.
In the entire day, 728 out of 736 electors voted in the Parliament which includes PM Narendra Modi, and former PM Manmohan Singh among others, whereas 8 MPs chose to abstain. Since there was no whip, the candidates voted according to their will. And several reports came up regarding cross-voting by the legislators.

Cross-voting in presidential polls
Patterns of cross-voting in presidential polls were reported from several factions of different parties, which ultimately concludes the victory of Droupadi Murmu. NCP MLA Kandhal Jadeja voted for Murmu in Gujarat. Also, in Odisha, a Congress MLA has claimed to have voted for Murmu. Not only this, but Haryana Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi had also indicated his support for Murmu.
Several MLAs flouted their parties’ choice and voted for Murmu, and the BJP’s attempt of playing the best card of the deck is all set to pay back. In Assam, AIUDF legislator Karimuddin Barbhuiyan claimed that around 20 Congress MLAs had cross-voted. In Uttar Pradesh, Shivpal Yadav claimed that he and his party will never support Sinha, as he once accused the SP patriarch of being an “ISI agent”.

BJP ensured its victory by picking Murmu
The Opposition with a common consensus had picked Sinha, as the Opposition knew its fate long ago. But Sinha was the best man, as no one in the entire political spectrum would have been able to garner the attention that Sinha has gathered, although for all the wrong reasons.
After Ram Nath Kovind, a Dalit, this time NDA with the Bhartiya Janata Party at the helm of affairs had picked Droupadi Murmu, an adivasi mahila leader as its presidential candidate.
While she not only enjoyed support from non-allies. of NDA like Biju Janata Dal and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, both Thackeray and Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, many legislators flouted their party’s choice and sided with Murmu, and this is how Murmu is all set to become the first adivasi President of India, while Sinha at the age of 84 reminds us of a job-seeker.
