With Shinde-Fadnavis Government in power, Aarey project back on track

Aarey

It has been observed umpteenth times that many welfare policies, schemes and development projects succumb to petty politics whenever there’s a change of government. The problem of non-continuation of development projects has cost India dearly. Domestic and Foreign investors fearful of such scenarios restrict themselves from investing in development projects in India. Thankfully the MVA administration which was creating political hurdles in development projects had to bow down to people’s mandate. This has given way to the new Shinde-Fadnavis development oriented government.

Boost to Infrastructure development

The Hindutva Yuti which got the people’s mandate is back in power in Maharashtra. Hours after the oath taking ceremony, CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis held the first cabinet meeting of the new government. The sources claim that the new administration, without wasting any time, started working for the development of the state. As per the sources, the government has made it clear that the Metro-3 car shed will be built in Mumbai’s Aarey colony itself. It directed the Advocate General to represent this stand of the government on the metro car shed project.

Earlier, In September 2019, then Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis didn’t relevant to the malicious campaign against the project. He said that the government is bound to cut trees in Mumbai’s Aarey forest area as “development is important”.

The Supreme Court also rejected all the malicious campaign against the project and allowed the cutting of 2,700 trees stating that the benefits of the project outweighed the cost of cutting down the trees.

Even after getting a tight slap from the judiciary, the so-called environmentalists and activists kept spreading canards and misinformation about the project. These vested interests stonewalled the project. For political greed the administration changed and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government came into power and autocratically overturned suggestions of expert committees, SC order on Metro car shed project in Aarey and remained adamant on building it on an financially un-viable alternate route.

The fact of the matter is that the proposed area for the project is only around 2% of the entire area of the Aarey Colony. (25 hectares out of 1300 hectares of total area of aarey forest.)

Environmental fascists and their PR

The so-called Bollywood celebrities were hand in glove with the perennial vested interests on environment and climate change. In a PR campaign to malign the Metro development project celebs like Twinkle Khanna, Shraddha Kapoor, Richa Chaddha, Varun Dhavan, Farhan Akhtar and others tried to capture their “Chipko Movement” moment.

Ironically, the same Bollywood celebrities have no shame when they shoot in Film City which has caused widespread ecological damage. Additionally their PR campaign was also exposed many times when exact similar tweets were posted simultaneously by several Bollywood celebrities.

This false propaganda has again started and many “Environmental experts” are crying hoarse about this proposed restart of the metro car shed project.

Fact on Damage to Environment

First of all the Aarey protest was a political smear campaign and had many vested interests. Secondly, even if the cause was genuine for protecting Environment than it was definitely a case of penny wise pound foolishness. Total trees affected for car depots are 2700 of which CO2 absorption capacity would be around 80 to 90 Ton per year. On the other hand the Metro 3 once commissioned would reduce 2.25 lakhs ton CO2 and other oxides of Carbon and Nitrogen per year. This estimation is done by independent auditors of UNFCCC.

These hoax protests have many times tried to destabilise India and ensure that India’s development projects never take off. The prime example of this is the Kudankulam and Sterlite copper plant. These development projects were stonewalled by the fabricated protests of “Environmental nazis”.
