Politics is not just limited to Thackerays, Yadavs and Gandhis

Politics is an illusive goldmine that attracts everyone, and YS Jagan Reddy’s family is no exception. In the world where people are fighting for power, YS Jagan Reddy is that unfortunate guy who got backstabbed by his own mother and sister.

On Friday, YS Jagan Reddy’s mother Y.S Vijayamma made an announcement that she will no longer hold the position of the chair person of YSRC. The entire political drama was staged to support her daughter.  With this move, Vijayamma proved the fact that political nepotism exists not just with Yadav, Thackeray and Gandhi families in Indian Politics. It goes further down South in the same manner.

Another Political Family Drama

India and its nepotistic politics is something which is known in every nook and cranny of the world. You call the party’s name and people will associate it with a family and tell you how nepotism holds onto the roots of most of the political parties in India.

Now, in the game of politics, a new family drama has emerged from down the South. This incident occured in the state of Andhra Pradesh, where the Sister of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YS Sharmila, sculptured her own party with the ample support of her mother. This will surely be a hard blow for the political career of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Leaving the post of Chair person of the party, Vijayamma stated that “My son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and my daughter Y.S. Sharmila have inherited the legacy of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy. I have taken the decision to resign from the party as I feel that I should stand by Sharmila and I want to put an end to all speculations around our family. I am deeply anguished by reports in a section of media, which released a letter and alleged that I have signed it. I want to put an end to this and my conscience tells me that I should support my daughter. I have stood by my son during his hardship and if I continue to support him even when he is happy, I will be doing an injustice to my daughter.”

The report suggests that there was dispute of property between the siblings. This news spread like a wild-fire and burnt out the decorum of one of the most reputed political families of Andhra Pradesh.

History of Nepotism in Indian Politics

This type of Political roots and its spread have been very common and predominant in Indian politics from North to South, and from East to west. Looking into the political circus of Bihar, it has long history of the term called nepotism. Talking about the Yadav family, the story is not unknown to the public of India where Lalu Yadav crowned his illiterate wife, Rabri Devi, as the chief Minister of Bihar. Now, his son is carrying on the legacy of nepotistic politics.

In the paradise of India, Kashmir, there is long history of nepotism. From Sheikh Abdullah to Farookh Abdulla to Umar Abdulla, their family ruled the political arena predominantly.

Again we come down to the South of India, to the state of Karnataka. From former Prime Minister H.D Deve Gowda to Kumara Swamy have been the eminent faces of regional politics. They have a large say in the state politics of Karnataka, which in itself is the biggest proof of nepotism.

If we talk about Maharashtra, there too existed the bad side of nepotism on the name of Ambedkar family. From Yashwant Ambedkar to Aanand Ambedkar, each of them had a big say in the political arena of Maharashtra. The Thackeray family needs no introduction.

Every single party has the blot of nepotism in them. This list is an abyss of dynasts, with each wanting to have their share of pie.
