The Supreme Court of India, often seen to uphold the ultimate freedom of expression and liberty of its ‘peaceful’ subjects has said that Nupur Sharma’s ‘loose tongue’ has caused the beheading of Kanhaiyalal in Udaipur. Hearing a plea filed by Nupur Sharma to club the multiple FIRs registered against her, Supreme Court further said that “what is the business of the TV channel to discuss the matter which is sub-judice, except to promote an agenda?”

In a way, the Supreme Court of India, the ultimate defender of the ‘secular’ republic, is saying that two lines by a lady are sufficient to endanger 100 crore lives. The observation of the Court is very intriguing from the fact that when Islamists are openly giving beheading threats to her, the court is making such justifying statements. Further, the Court’s statement will be used as a justification in Kanhaiya Lal’s murder case.
