Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and the foot in mouth disease of Congress’ Leader of Opposition

Congress leader

The Congress political party has often maintained its legacy of dirty politics. However, it seems that nothing works for it. Yet again, it is under controversy with the efforts  of its leaders of opposition. Congress has proven itself to be dumb with its leader of opposition’s ‘slip of tongue’.

Congress tried to demean the President

In a recent comment, the leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Rajan Chowdhury, called the newly elected President Droupadi Murmu as “Rashtrapatni”. These remarks came when Congress was protesting against the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) questioning of Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case. Responding to the media, he said, “Yes, we will go to the Rashtrapati. India’s Rashtrapati, no no Rashtrapatni, is for all.”

Adhir’s remarks have caused massive controversy in light of disrespecting the President of India. Considering this, he said, “I have said not once but 100 times that I made a mistake. What can I do? One can make a mistake. I am a Bengali, Hindi is not my mother tongue. I am not used to Hindi. If despite this our President is offended, then I will meet her and talk to her and explain to her. I will not disrespect anyone on this high post.”

Meanwhile, Union Minister Smriti Irani slammed Sonia Gandhi over Chowdhury’s ‘Rashtrapatni’ remark. She said Sonia should apologize to Murmu. In addition, she added that Sonia Gandhi sanctioned the humiliation of Droupadi Murmu. She went on to say that the Congress workers always demean women in constitutional posts.

The controversy has created clashes between the BJP and Congress. However, it has now been a recurrent practice of Adhir and his congress cohorts to needlessly put foot in the mouth. There have been numerous incidents where the leader of the opposition insulted the people in authority and Indian matters at large.

Adhir’s series of demeaning remarks

In 2019, Lok Sabha Congress leader Adhir Rajan Chowdhury called Nirmala Sitharaman as “Nirbala”. In addition, he also criticized the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) by calling it a “Non-delivery agency”.

Another such incident happened in the same year of 2019. While opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Adhir called the prime Minister of India and Home Minister Amit Shah “migrants”. “Their homes are in Gujarat but they have come to Delhi.”

Apart from this, the Congress leader had also called PM Modi as “gaandi naali”. While comparing former PM Indira Gandhi with the incumbent PM Narendra Modi, he had said, “Kahan maa ganga, kahan gandi naali. Don’t compare a monk and a monster.”

To your surprise, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary had also demeaned his own party member Kapil Sibal. In insulting the senior Congress leader, he said, “Kapil Sibal kahan ke neta hain mujhe pata nahi. He got many advancements because of the Congress party. Things were good when he was a minister in the UPA government now when UPA is not in power he is feeling bad.”

Through this, it is apparent that Adhir Rajan Chowdury has long tried to monkey balance himself, but is unable to succeed. From attacking BJP members and leaders at a reputable authority to betraying his own party members, Adhir seems to be a lunatic. To add more to Congress’s embarrassment, there are other leaders too who have disrespected various authorities of the country.

Mallikarjun Kharge under the same list

The Congress leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, is another Congress member who tried to utter absurd remarks about the people in power.

During the 2019 general Lok Sabha elections, the senior Congress leader landed under huge controversy for his derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister of India. While challenging the BJP’s winning in the elections, Kharge had said, “Wherever he goes, he keeps saying that Congress will not win 40 seats. If Congress gets more than 40 seats, will Modi hang himself at Vijay Chowk in Delhi?”

Earlier, during a Lok Sabha debate, the government had said that the word “secularism” in the constitution has been “misused” by the opposition. In response to this war of words, Mallikarjun Kharge had said that if any attempt is made to change the constitution, then there will be followed bloodshed.

Another case was followed by lodging of an FIR against Kharge when he allegedly disrespected the Bharat Ratna award, in addition to his demeaning comments on legendary musical maestro Bhupen Hazarika. He criticized the government for awarding a “singer” rather than recognizing the late spiritual leader Dr. Shivakumara Swami of Karnataka.

To sum it all up, these aforementioned incidents show the Congress’s dilapidated situation and its foot-in-the-mouth disease. Apparently, the leaders of the opposition hold a lot of impatience as they cannot sustain in politics without their legacy of unnecessarily demeaning the Indian authorities.
