Kyle Coetzer Biography and Career

Scottish cricketer Kyle Coetzer, MBE, served as the team’s captain in previous international competitions. He led teams in the under-15, under-17, and under-19 age groups and the U-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh in 2004. Coetzer is from a cricket-playing household. Both his father, Peter, and brothers Shaun and Stuart are members of the Stoneywood-Dyce Cricket Club. Grant Dugmore, who played for Eastern Province and Argentina, is his uncle.

He was born on 14 April 1984, in Aberdeen, Scotland.

International Career

He played in four National League games later that season after making his debut in 2003 against Pakistan in a one-day match for the complete Scotland side. He served as the Scotland ODI team’s captain in the past.

In the 2011–13 ICC World Cricket League Championship, when Scotland eventually fell to Afghanistan, he scored his first ODI century against that opponent. The unlucky streak persisted in 2015 as well, when Coetzer set a record by scoring 156 against Bangladesh in a losing effort at the ICC Cricket World Cup in Nelson.

International as a captain

He was chosen as the Scotland T20I international team’s captain for the competition to be held in the United Arab Emirates in January 2017.

In June 2017, Coetzer led the Scottish ODI team for the first time on the Zimbabwe tour. On June 15, 2017, Coetzer played in his first ODI as captain, scoring a century and becoming the first Scottish captain to do so. The match was won by 26 runs thanks to the century, making it the first-ever victory over a Full Member.

Coetzer was listed as one of the 10 players to watch by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in February 2018 in advance of the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier competition.

He scored 58 runs out of Scotland’s 371 for 5 total, leading Scotland to a six-run victory over England in a 50-over ODI at The Grange Club in Edinburgh on June 10, 2018.

Short biography of Kyle Coetzer

Kyle Coetzer represented Durham in six first-class games in 2004. On his first-class debut, he scored 67. He scored 133* for Scotland against Kenya in the ICC Intercontinental Cup Semifinal later that same year.

In 2005 and 2006, his performance declined, but in 2007, his early-season performance allowed him to regain his place in the Durham lineup.

He also led Scotland in runs scored during the competition.

Additionally, he leads Pokhara Rhinos in the Everest Premier League.

In the 2019 Birthday Honours, Kyle Coetzer was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his contributions to cricket. He became the third cricketer from Scotland to be awarded an MBE for services to the game. Coetzer received the International Cricket Council’s Associate Cricketer of the Year award in January 2020.
