As predicted by Kejriwal, Sisodia comes under CBI’s radar

Sisodia

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the highest investigating authority in India. The agency was formulated to evaluate the breach of any central law. For it, this Special Police Establishment has often diligently carried out its probing activity irrespective of the suspect’s authority in the country. This time, another MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party is on its radar.

Delhi’s deputy CM under scrutiny

On July 22, the Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena recommended a CBI investigation against the Arvind Kejriwal-led government’s excise policy of 2021-22. A media release from Saxena’s office revealed that a July 8 report by the Chief Secretary indicated several law violations “in addition to deliberate and gross procedural lapses to provide post tender undue benefits to liquor licensees.”

The LG, by directly naming Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, remarked the report as an indication of “substantial” economic favour at the political level. In addition, he included that the sole objective of setting up this excise policy was to benefit private liquor Barrons for the financial gains of individuals in the government, leading to Sisodia.

Moreover, by describing the actions, Saxena stated that “Minister In-charge of the Excise Department, Manish Sisodia took and got executed, major decisions/actions in violation of the statutory provisions and the notified Excise Policy that had huge financial implications.”

AAP’s response to the probe

In response, Aam Aadmi Party alleged that Saxena is working on the directions of the Centre, which is trying to restrain the rising popularity of AAP. Saurabh Bhardwaj, a party spokesperson, said that PM Modi and his party members are “jealous” of AAP’s electoral win in the recent Punjab polls. He also alleged that they tried to stop Arvind Kejriwal and his government from working in Delhi in 2016 and are doing the same again.

By attacking the BJP, Bhardwaj said, “We had been saying the 2016 situation would return, inquiries by CBI, income tax, and ED would be launched to stop us. They are trying all means to hinder our work. They had been after Manish Sisodia after our health minister.”

AAP has been on the suspected list

It’s not the first time that Aam Aadmi Party leaders are under scrutiny. There have been several disclosure cases involving different party members. From Enforcement Directorate to the Central Bureau of Investigation, AAP’s false deeds have been exposed time and again.

Recently, two Aam Aadmi Party MLAs were under the scanner of the CBI for influencing the transfer and posting of drivers in the Delhi Transport Corporation. With respect to this, it was revealed that DTC’s deputy Chief General Manager was arrested in a bribery case.

Another case was reported by TFI, where Delhi’s LG gave his assent to prosecute AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan. It was alleged that while serving as the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board, the AAP legislator violated several rules and made “illegal appointments” to the board.

Apart from this, Enforcement Directorate (ED) also arrested Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain in a money-laundering case. The case was based on a 2017 FIR by CBI under the ‘Prevention of Corruption Act’, where he was accused of money fraud through four companies allegedly linked to him.  Interestingly, the arrest of Satyendar Jain was earlier predicted by Kejriwal.

During the same time, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also stated that the central Agencies will soon arrest deputy CM Manish Sisodia as well in a similar case. In the wake of presenting his party members as innocent, the Delhi CM tried hard enough to divert the Central agencies through his childish tactics. However, frankly that is unlikely.

No matter how much we criticise Kejriwal, at least one thing is certain; his choice of leaders for his party, along with his prediction for them is commendable. Apparently, Kejriwal already knew about the dirt involved in his party, which ultimately resulted in his predictions coming true.

Given Sisodia’s political stature, which is higher than the party head as well, it is obvious for the AAP Supremo to be insecure. Thus, it is indeed a need for Kejriwal to control Manish Sisodia by raking up his corruption case.
