The frequent killings of the innocent are upsurging with the passage of time. Some groups of society are turning their sects into an angered bunch.

Another gruesome incident in Delhi

On 15 June, a Zomato executive was stabbed to death allegedly by two men outside a house in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar. The incident took place in the early hours of the day when the victim Sagar Singh was waiting to drop off his order.

The police have said that the two accused Nihang Sikhs used a Kirpan to allegedly stab the victim. One of the accused has been arrested while the other has been identified and efforts are being made to nab him. The Police have also mentioned that they suspect the accused objected to Singh smoking near a restaurant and a scuffle broke out which resulted in him getting stabbed.

What did the officials have to say?

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ghanshyam Bansal said, “During questioning, the accused, Harshdeep Singh, claimed Singh blocked their path which led to the scuffle. During interrogation, Harshdeep told the police that he and his friend were near a restaurant on street number 13, Krishna Puri when they saw Sagar blocking their way. He said they asked Sagar to move aside but he rebuked them instead.” He also said that the police are investigating the claims that the victim was also beaten by bricks.

The police also opined that Harshdeep Singh, a resident of nearby Chander Vihar, has been arrested and a knife was also recovered from him which was used to kill the victim. The police mentioned that the two accused are Nihangs belonging to a Sikh warrior order.

While expressing grief, a Zomato spokesperson said, “The incident is unfortunate, to say the least. We are in touch with the family of the bereaved and have extended all possible support that we can.”

An FIR was also registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Which states, “Whoever commits murder shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to a fine.”

Was this the first time?

This is not the first incident where the accusers are Nihangs. Earlier, on 16 May, it was reported that Nihang Sikhs had tortured a 26-year-old man to death over the suspicion of kidnapping a girl.

Another incident can be traced to the last year when Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Balbir Singh Rajewal alleged that Nihang Sikhs were responsible for the murder of the man found hanging from a barricade with a severed wrist.

The rampant acts of violence are continuously on a threatening rise. These melancholy incidents are alarming the Indian authorities to safeguard India from its internal backstabbers.

It’s high time to throw some light on the question that how a particular section of India can kill its own countrymen? Are ideological symbols becoming a threat to humanity? Will this be another incident of ignorance? Who is responsible? The question is wide open and only authorities can answer it.
