Ever since CM Yogi Adityanath stormed to power in Uttar Pradesh, the state has witnessed many revolutionary changes. Be it the crackdown of radicals and mafias or action against the hooligans, teaching the opposition how to rule or bring back the glory by renaming and refurnishing the places, CM Yogi has ensured the revival of the state in every way possible. Now, he is back with his new aim to de-terrorise Azamgarh.
Bypolls, a chance to stop Azamgarh from becoming ‘Aatankgarh’
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday urged to prevent Azamgarh from turning into an “aatankwaad ka garh”. He stated that voters should take the Lok Sabha by-election as an opportunity to do so.
Addressing a public meeting in support of BJP candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahua, the CM requested people to “connect with the process of development, and change Azamgarh to “Aryamgarh”.
CM Yogi Adityanath claimed that “The previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government had turned Azamgarh into an “aatankwaad ka garh” and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) too could not undo that.”
Adityanath further said, “Those who were get elected by you from Azamgarh could not develop the area but created an identity crisis before you. They went missing when you needed them in crisis (pandemic).”
“They are cruel planets of development. As much as you will go away from them, the development will come nearer to you and create employment,” he said while comparing SP and BSP with “Raahu” and “Ketu”.
Yogi’s plan to snatch bastions of SP
For those unversed, the two Lok Sabha bypolls- Azamgarh and Rampur have been bastions of the Samajwadi Party. It seems like that the Akhilesh Yadav-led party is not even concerned about their bastion this time. This is why few days ahead of the polls Akhilesh Yadav is yet to start campaigning. Moreover, while the Azamgarh seat fell vacant after Yadav’s resignation, the Rampur seat also has no leader after the resignation of Azam Khan.

BJP, on the contrary, is leaving no stone unturned to win the constituencies. About a month ago, on the occasion of laying of the foundation stone for Maharaja Suhel Dev University, Yogi Adityanath had said that if everything goes well, then no one can stop Azamgarh from becoming Aryamgarh. Yogi Adityanath then addressed the gathering, saying, “There will be a new state university named after Maharaja Suhel Dev, which will end Azamgarh’s identity crisis”.
CM Yogi has always been active against the mafias, hooligans and radicals. Given the increasing radical movements and Taliban capture of Afghanistan, Yogi Government stepped in with the decision to set up Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) Centre in Deoband.
Zee News has then reported that “The ATS commando centre is being set up given the catastrophic situation in Afghanistan. The Yogi government is already getting alert to rein in Taliban sympathisers.”
There’s a reason behind why Deoband was chosen. The Yogi government wants to protect sensitive areas from any kind of radicalisation. In 2009, the Combating Terrorism Centre of the US Military Academy at West Point published a report that stated, “Deobandi Islam is the most popular form of pedagogy in the Pashtun belt on both sides of the Durand Line that separates Afghanistan and Pakistan. Moreover, prominent Afghan and Pakistani Taliban leaders have studied in Deobandi seminaries.”
Similarly, Yogi Adityanath has also worked for the ‘cleaning’ of Azamgarh. Given his work and Samajwadi party inabilities, it can be asserted that Yogi’s plan to de-terrorise Azamgarh will work and his government will win the constituency.
