The recent news is continuously grabbing the headlines, citing that the Antara Luxury River Cruises has decided to go on the longest journey across the globe in December 2022. It will be seen as the world’s longest journey of 51 days. The company’s Antara Ganga Vilas ship will pass through the Ganges and Brahmaputra, starting from Uttar Pradesh’s Kashi to reaching its destination of Assam’s Dibrugarh.
This extremely long cruise journey will move through 5 states, 27 smaller rivers, and 2 countries. This journey is an opportunity for tourists to explore the South Asian culture and spend their time experiencing various pieces of natural beauty en routing the expedition.
India connecting North-Eastern states
As exclusively reported by TFI, the connectivity over Brahmaputra River and the hilly terrains of the northeast has been the priority of Modi government since it came to power in 2014. The government has approved construction for the longest river bridge between the states of Assam and Meghalaya, which is to be completed by 2026. The 19.3 km long bridge will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya and shorten the existing distance of 203 km. This will save almost two and a half hours for the commuters. This will also be the longest river bridge in the country.
This can be taken as an example of the Modi government turning this narrative towards the development of India. However, since the entry of the Modi government in Indian politics, India as a country has developed immensely. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been on a cruise which is moving quickly, with the aim of taking India to new and greater heights.
This can be evidenced through the announcement made by the Railway Board earlier about its initiative which had been a part of the Modi government’s ‘Look East Policy’. This was planned for an all around development of the North eastern region. The Narendra Modi led government has time and again provided an opportunity towards strengthening the Indian economy and infrastructure.
Details of the expedition
This newly announced enthralling voyage will be called “The Grand Cruise”, which will provide its services every day. The journey will include various World Heritage Sites of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Bihar among others. This journey will also include Bangladesh under its ambit and will provide a safari to UNESCO’s accredited Sundarbans. Further, it will take its guests to various places in Bangladesh, including Barisal, Bagerhat, and Dhak.
Raj Singh, the Chairman of the Antara River Cruise Company said, “Each experience has been personally vetted and designed by me for fellow enthusiastic travellers. The historical route has been finalized with the support, assistance, and cooperation of the governments of India and Bangladesh, which are working together to ensure seamless travel between the two countries.”
While sharing the details of the expedition Mr. Singh said, “Our guests visit Matiari where they watch brassware and textiles in the villages being hand-created. They walk on the same grounds on archaeological sites that date to over 2500 years. We go to Vikramshila, one of the largest Buddhist universities alongside Nalanda and Bhagalpur for its centuries-old Tussar silk weaving traditions.”
Shopping from the floating markets of Barisal to Bagerhat, which is home to the famous 60-domed mosque, to Sonargaon, the country’s historic city. The journey will continue from Dhaka to Jamuna in northern Bangladesh, turning east to return to India at Dhubri, touching the banks of the Brahmaputra for the Assam, sailing through the natural beauty and culture along the way.
