It is public knowledge that Bollywood doesn’t really welcome those who do not belong to any star family or lack a surname like ‘Khan’ and ‘Kapoor’. Although the audience is evolving and has begun rejecting the content offering stale ideas of entertainment with a star face, the existence of nepotism can never be questioned.
Despite multiple such hurdles emerged an actor who never really got his due because he was an outsider. He is no one but Mithun Chakraborty. The man is literally a part of the popular culture and enjoys incredible popularity in the countryside even today. However, it’s not his only achievement as he is the one who cracked the “Returns on Investment” code in Bollywood.
Mithun Chakraborty cracked the “Returns on Investment” code
While we all know how gem of an actor Mithun ji is, only few are aware of the fact that Mithun as the businessman is equally good as Mithun as the actor. There was a time when the veteran actor started focusing more on his Hotel business in Ooty. It was in the 90s when he moved to Ooty and transformed from an artiste into a businessman. The producers were asked to shoot in Ooty or neighbouring locations. The films were completed in four months flat and this extremely efficient filmmaking method kept interest rates and the budget in check.
Interestingly, these movies used to be made on a very low budget and still earned a lot more than other expensive films and turned out profitable at the box office. This is because of the loyal fanbase that Mithun Chakraborty has.
Be it Chaandaal, Ustaadon ka Ustad and Sher-e-Hindustan, there are multiple B-grade films that have worked wonders for Mithun Chakraborty.
The actor, thus, successfully cracked the “Returns of Investment” code.
The man who fought the Bollywood to make his mark
Born as Gouranga in a lower-middle-class Bengali family, Mithun did not have much to do with the film industry.
In fact, as a youth, Mithun was swayed by the Naxalite movement. But after a tragedy struck his family when his brother died in an accident, Mithun decided to dump Naxalite ideology. Due to a police crackdown, Mithun even had to remain in hiding for some time.
