There is a saying that struggle does not sell, success sells. Once you succeed, your utter rubbish will be broadcasted as a gospel by the media organisations. The IAS lobby takes huge advantage of it. Add to that the ‘Mahila IAS’ card. It turns out, once a woman qualifies for UPSC CSE, she can sell the fake story of domestic violence and our media will welcome her with open arms.
UPSC pass accused her family of harassment
Recently, UPSC released its annual stardom list of qualified CSE candidates. One of the toppers on the list is a woman named Shivangi Goyal. We do not have an exact number of view counts, but we can assure you that she got equal if not more amount of media eyeballs compared to toppers.
The reason is that media was told that she was a victim of domestic violence. Media organisations found a story to sell. Without going into depth of any issue, media started to defame her husband’s side of the family. They published her story with absurd titles. The title itself shown her as some kind of abhla naari who overcame all odds to qualify for UPSC examination.
Even family members not spared
But, as with most domestic violences in the case, there is a twisty in the tale as well. But, first look at what did she accuse her husband and his family of. She accused them of asking for additional dowry of ₹ 50 lakhs. Additionally, she also accused her husband asking for unnatural sexual favours. The same accusations were made against her father and brother-in-law as well. She even went to an extent to claim that her family members pressurized her to abort her girl child.
To harass her family members, she filed a complaint in the office of ACP, Women Cell, Rani Bagh, New Delhi. Then she proceeded to Pilakhuwa in Hapur district.

Avoided Scrutiny
However, when push came to shove and Police started investigating these matters, reality came to light. When it was time for medical reports to test the veracity of her claim, Shivangi refused to do so. She said that she just wanted to separate from her husband. In her statement, she said and we quote, “I do not want to live with him(husband).”, “I am not physically hurt.”, “I am not going for medical examination.”
But, later she appeared for a medical examination in Hapur. Even in that report, her allegations proved to be false. Later, Police dropped all the offences filed under 498A, 323, 504, 506, 307 IPC and 3⁄4 of D.P. Act. In its judgement, the Court said, “It is explicitly clear that the FIR is nothing but a virtual canard and full of venom where the informant unmindful of the fact to its far-reaching repercussions, pasted all the filth upon revisionist in a wild manner but was unable to produce any documentary evidence/proof to substantiate the levelled allegations and thus, all the sections of unnatural/oral sex, forcible abortion have gone to haywire resultantly dropped from charge sheet.”

Society’s pro-woman bias
In spite of the information available in the public domain, no media organisation went into full details of Shivangi’s allegations. As soon as they heard that a women is claiming to be harassed, they just rushed in to publish her report. There is no due diligence, no cross-examination and no other due process.

A woman’s word is paramount and beyond that media does not want to listen to anything. It sells, people have a misandrist mindset that women are the victims of upper hierarchical male dominance in society. And that is why when such stories come out, it becomes a manifestation of David vs Goliath battle.

Innocent girls and men are at harm
But, media does not care what impact will its nonsensical reporting creates in the society. Apparently, no matter how crooked Shivangi’s stories are, she is a role model for millions of girls and women who are actual victims of domestic violence and systematic bias. They all are one for the law and system is built to protect them.
In the end it harms the society. For example, men are no longer a trustable gender in 21st century. In the name of women empowerment, they have been so villainised that their morals are constantly down and they are failing on every metric, including physical fitness, an area where they are supposed to dominate by the virtue of natural advantage. But, no media organisation will cover it because it won’t sell.
