Manish Sisodia, your countdown to doom begins

Like his Supremo Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia has a habit of staying in the centre of controversies. Whether it is the Delhi police or industrialist Gautam Adani, Manish Sisodia has drawn ire from vast ends of the public spectrum. But, there is an end to everything. Seems like Sisodia’s countdown to doom has begun.

Sisodia tries to corner Himanta

Recently, Manish Sisodia, the habitual allegation maker, tried his stunt on Assam’s firebrand Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as well. To stoke sensationalism, he took the support of his party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Firstly, Kejriwal announced on twitter that Sisodia is going to expose a prominent BJP leader.

In coordination with his Chief Minister, Sisodia then held a press conference. He told the mediapersons that Himanta Biswa Sarma had taken unfair advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic. Relying on an investigative hit piece by left-wing portal ‘The Wire‘ and Guwahati-based ‘The Crosscurrent’, Sisodia alleged that Sarma’s wife and son’s business partners financially benefited from Assam’s struggle with covid-19. According to Sisodia, family members of the current Assam CM charged 55 per cent more from the Assam government for supplying PPE Kits.

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s rebuttal

Himanta Biswa Sarma has always been held as a symbol of integrity and honesty. So, it was obvious that he would not take these unsubstantiated allegations lightly. He factually demolished Sisodia’s claims on twitter. It turned out that Shri Sarma’s wife had actually provided free PPE Kits to the Assam government.

Countering Sisodia’s claims, Sarma wrote, “After hectic efforts, my wife managed to bring in a few kits to save precious lives. Although the NHM issued order, the company raised no bill and the kits were gifted to the government. Not a single penny was transacted, where is the corruption?” Sarma also challenged him to put out all facts in the public domain and not cherry pick them to suit his agenda.

The Assam CM did not stop here. He exposed the virtue signalling stunt by Sisodia as well. During the Covid crisis, Himanta wanted to extend help to Assamese stuck in Delhi. But, his calls were constantly rejected by Sisodia. In fact, just to bring a Covid victim’s body to Assam, the Delhi government made Himanta wait for 7 days.

Himanta is not going to take down these allegations lightly. Himanta is thinking of filing a criminal defamation case against Sisodia.

Sisodia has the history of fake allegations

This is not the first time when Sisodia has labelled baseless allegations against somebody. The man whose own degree has been the centre of controversy, had accused PM Modi of hurting the image of Delhi University.

This is the least heinous public stunt which Sisodia committed. When the whole of Delhi was burning and the local police were fighting tooth and nail with Islamists, he tried to defame them. During the anti-CAA riot, he accused Delhi police of shielding those culprits who were guilty of setting the bus on fire.

During the aftermath of the Pulwama attack, he accused the Adani group of supplying electricity to Pakistan. The Adani Group soon exposed Sisodia’s lies with the clarification that it is not involved in supplying electricity to Pakistan. In reply to Sisodia’s allegations, Adani Group wrote, “The Adani Group would like to inform you that we do not supply electricity to Pakistan. You must withdraw such incorrect and irresponsible statements”.

Defamation-Not new for Sisodia and AAP

But, slowly the noose has started to tighten on Sisodia. In May 2019, BJP stalwart Gautam Gambhir sent a defamation notice to Sisodia. Along with Sisodia, Atishi Marlena and Arvind Kejriwal were also in the defamation list.

If Sarma goes ahead with the defamation list, it would mean that Sisodia will be following the footsteps of his idol Arvind Kejriwal. In 2018, Arun Jaitley had filed a 10 crore defamation suit against Kejriwal after which he had offered his apology to settle the matter.

Sensationalism has been at the core of AAP’s politics. The party first creates an aura of anarchy. Then they tell people that if they are given power, they will solve it. Sisodia is not different. But Democracy and Anarchy can’t go hand-in-hand. It’s payback time for Sisodia.
