In the state of secular Nitish Kumar, vandalising Hindu mandirs is a regular pastime

The two most misused words or concepts nowadays are ‘Secularism’ and ‘Sacrilege’. For political benefits, the definitions of these two have been tilted in one favour. It seems that secularism is nothing but anything that is anti-Hindu. Ironically, chanting Hindu deities’ slogans is projected as communal while intolerant ‘Abrahamic’ concepts are presented as inclusive and truly ‘Secular’. Further, stating facts can be misconstrued as an ‘act of hurting religious sentiments’ or sacrilegious or blasphemous but spewing venom against Hinduism and Hindu Gods is not.

Hindu Gods facing the brunt of Skewed Secular Politics

Bihar is witnessing this altered aforementioned definition of secularism. Acts of hooliganism and vandalism against Hindu Mandirs are on a rampant rise. Evidently, The Laxmi Narayan Temple in Bihar’s Araria district witnessed a horrific act of vandalism. The incident took place inside the temple in the Rampur Kodarkatti panchayat area.

Some unidentified persons desecrated the deities’ idols. The ‘Sheshnag’ Murti placed inside the Laxmi Narayan temple complex was vandalised by the unknown miscreants. As per many reports and pictures of the incident, it is said that the miscreants also foisted a flag with Islamic inscriptions on it.

What do the officials say?

Puskar Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Sadar, informed that an FIR was registered against unknown persons for the incident reported at the Laxmi Narayan temple.  The SDPO said, Heavy police deployment was in place for maintaining peace in the village where the idol of ‘Sheshnag’ was found vandalised by local residents who also spotted the flag, which was later taken down.

The leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party protested against the desecration and vandalism of the Laxmi Narayan temple. They demanded timely arrest of the perpetrators of this crime. The locals spoke against these abhorrent acts and showed their anguish at the continuous attacks on Hindu Mandirs.

But it seems that the secular Nitish Kumar government is in a state of slumber. Either it is incompetent in stopping such rampant vandalism of Hindu Mandirs or is indulging in ugly appeasement politics. As stringent actions on such criminals and vandals may hurt his ‘vote bank’. So, it will be foolhardy to think that such criminals are dealt with in such a way that it becomes a deterrent against such acts in future.

It seems politically secular Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has turned a blind eye towards the atrocities on Hindus. Everything will be allowed as far as it fits the definition of their secularism, as Mandirs may come and go, razed to the ground or Hinduism cease to exist as long as their political posts remain, they are happy with it.
