How Devendra Fadnavis brought down Uddhav’s Empire, brick by brick in Maharashtra

Fadnavis maharashtra

“मेरा पानी उतरता देख मेरे किनारे पर घर मत बना लेना, मैं समन्दर हूँ, वापस जरूर आऊँगा” These were the lines of former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. And Fadnavis has turned this into reality.

Fadnavis, the king of winning elections, paved the path for Eknath Shinde as the next chief minister of Maharashtra and hence Fadnavis emerged as the Chanakya of Indian politics.

Fadnavis took oath two years ago at the dawn ceremony; however, Fadnavis was forced to quit four days later. But how has the political turmoil unfolded in the western state that has led to the resignation of non-political CM of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray?

Fadnavis: Not a man who mourns

After the backstabbing he received from Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis did not sit even for a day and began devising a plan to bring down Uddhav. He took to demolishing the fort of backstabber Uddhav Thackeray brick-by-brick, showcasing to the people of Maharashtra, what stature of an opportunist the new Thackeray is.

The process began in October 2019, with the betrayal of Shiv Sena. The BJP that contested on 152 seats in the assembly election, registered victory on 105 seats, and the regional party Shiv Sena, then an ally of BJP contested on 123 seats. However, it could only win 56 out of them. The drubbing received could not deter the party supremo Uddhav Thackeray from crossing the Lakshman Rekha drawn by his father and party founder BalaSaheb Thackeray. Uddhav went on to demand the chief ministerial seat for a Thackeray that was himself. This is how the unholy alliance of Maha Vikas Aghadi came into existence. Uddhav Thackeray ditched his father’s principles to align with the secular parties, the move marked the decline of not only Uddhav Thackeray, but also Shiv Sena.

How Fadnavis rose to prominence in Uddhav’s Maharashtra

Then began the petty politics in the state of Maharashtra with anarchy at its peak and law and order lying down somewhere in the deep gutters of Mumbai. The MVA alliance throttled the growth of Maharashtra by hoarding projects like Bullet Train, Aarey Metro shade project, and Palghar lynching of Sadhus among others including some high-profile cases like the Sushant Singh Rajput case and the Bollywood drug menace.

However, in crises like these emerges a leader. For Maharashtra, it was former CM Devendra Fadnavis. Fadnavis took every crisis and turned it into an opportunity to expose the Maha Vikas Aghadi government and its working.

How Fadnavis played the role of leader of the opposition should be a case study for the emerging leaders.  Fadnavis launched multiple attacks on the government over the mismanagement of Covid and seek answers from the ones responsible. He pointed out how disconnected the non-political CM was from the people of the state. He even exposed the work-from-home culture being practised in the MVA government. Even Uddhav Thackeray could not save himself from the same.

Not only this, Fadnavis exposed the rampant corruption in the Uddhav government and not to mention, two big shots of the MVA government, Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh are facing the wrath of the law for the same.

Fadnavis hammers the last nail in MVA’s coffin

Fadnavis was backstabbed and he understood the game of politics and the prospects of the Bhartiya Janata Party in the state. The BJP did not have a base it could bank upon as it has always been an ‘ally’ of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena clipped the wings of the saffron party in the western state in the same way Akali Dal did in Punjab.

However, the BJP had found a gem in Maharashtra who is none other than Devendra Fadnavis himself. There is a reason why he is known as the king of winning elections. He just excels when it comes to electoral contests. This time he had a plan too, he decided to work on preparing a loyal cadre and decided to make inroads by contesting the local polls. He started denting the vote banks of the MVA and registered a remarkable performance in the local elections. Uddhav too helped Fadnavis in digging MVA’s grave by ordering the arrest of leaders like Narayan Rane.

Fadnavis targeted the fence-sitters, the ones who have been irked by Uddhav for jumping the ship. Thus, Fadnavis attracted the Hindutva supporters and added to BJP’s base in the state. BJP under the leadership of Fadnavis also attracted the Maratha voters. And today, BJP stands in the position with all this hard work with its ally Eknath Shinde as the new CM of Maharashtra.
