Everyone in their field of experience is serving the nation with utmost respect and sincerity. But, serving in the armed forces is considered to be one of the most daring and responsible jobs in the country. Although due to differences in ability, not all people get the opportunity to serve the country in such a selfless way. But now the government has come up with the idea to let the young generation experience the life of the armed forces for a short period of time.
Agniveer on Agnipath
In an effort to recourse to the Human Resources Management of the Armed Forces, the centre has announced the AGNIPATH scheme for recruitment of youth in the Armed Forces. In a press brief related to the scheme, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that “the youth selected under the scheme will be known as Agniveer and they will be getting attractive monthly packages with Risk and Hardship allowances.”
Army Chief Manoj Pande said that Agnipath Scheme is a transformational reform for the Army and the Nation and it aims to bring a paradigm shift in Human Resources Management. He further said that it will maintain the balance between youth and experienced personnel.

Provision of the Agnipath Scheme
The Agnipath Scheme envisaged providing both armed forces as well as the youth of this country with a fresh lease of ‘Josh and Jazba’. It will bring down the average age profile of the Indian Armed forces by four to five years. Further, the short military service will result in the inculcation of patriotism, teamwork, enhancement of physical fitness, ingrained loyalty, and universal availability of youth in critical situations like internal, external, or natural threats.
According to reports, the enrolment will be undertaken by centralized system rallies and interviews. The Agnipath Scheme will be available for all youth in the range of 17.5 to 21 years of age and the educational qualification for entry into General Duty soldier will be class 10.
After the selection, candidates will be provided with six months of training and after that maximum of three and half years of duty. The starting salary will be around Rs 30000 per month which will go up to Rs 40000 by the end of service. Further, 30% of their salary is deducted from a Seva Nidhi Programme and the same amount will be also contributed to the program by the government. After the end of four years of service, around 11.71 lakhs as Seva Nidhi Package will be provided to the candidate with interest accrued.

The benefit of the Agnipath Scheme
The current average age of armed forces personnel is around 32 years but after the implementation of the Agnipath Scheme, it is expected to come down to 26 years. Further, the experience of the army will provide a great platform for youth to learn skills like self-defence, sports, discipline, time management, and physical well-being.

This visionary decision of Shri Narendra Modi to make India’s youth self-reliant by empowering them with discipline, skills, fitness and making them financially strong, will lay the foundation of self-reliant India in the true sense.”
