Career After retirement from Cricket
Chetan went on to work as a cricket pundit after retiring. In 2004, he founded a fast bowling cricket academy in Panchkula, Haryana, which he dissolved in 2009.
Chetan ran for Lok Sabha from Faridabad in 2009 on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. With 18.2 percent of the vote, he came in third.
He was elected Chairman of the Indian cricket team’s selection committee in December 2020.
Chatan Sharma was born on 3 January 1966, in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He also tried his luck in Indian politics.

He bowled Mohsin Khan with his fifth ball in his first Test outing against Pakistan in Lahore in 1984, becoming only the third Indian to take a wicket in his first over in Test cricket.
In the three Tests he played in Sri Lanka in 1985, he collected fourteen wickets. Later that season, India needed a win in the final match of the league to qualify for the World Series Cup final in Australia.
In 1986, Sharma was a key player in the Indian team that defeated England 2–0. In the two Tests he played, he took sixteen wickets.

At Birmingham, he took ten wickets, including a career-best 6 for 58 in the second innings.
It is still the first time an Indian has taken ten wickets in England. He is also one of the few Indian pacers, along with his coach Kapil Dev, to take a 5-wicket haul in a 32-over stint.
He has his name permanently carved on the Lord’s Cricket Ground Hall of Fame board. Despite the fact that he was only twenty years old at the time. He was plagued by ailments, which limited his playing time. For the next three years, he was Kapil Dev’s first choice as the opening bowler when he was available.

By the early 1990s, his bowling had lost its velocity and precision, and his strike rate had plummeted.

Sharma took the first hat-trick in the history of the Reliance World Cup in 1987 when he clean bowled New Zealand’s Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith, and Ewen Chatfield off consecutive deliveries.
