Bulldozers in Shaheen Bagh

The authorities in Delhi have started a drive to free the government property from the clutches of illegal encroachments. Shaheen Bagh which had become a den of illegal activities will now face the music. Notably, the place had been the epicentre for hate-mongering and secessionist speeches in the garb of Anti-CAA protests.

Resumption of Anti-encroachment drive

The Shaheen Bhag is back in the news, this time not for Anti-CAA protests but because of the Municipality’s action against the illegal encroachments and politics around it. On 9th May, The South Delhi Municipal Corporation re-started the anti-encroachment drive in the Kalindi Kunj-Jamia Nagar area near Shaheen Bagh and in Sriniwaspuri. The Delhi Police accompanied the bulldozers of the authorities in the demolition drive. As earlier, the demolition drives in these areas were cancelled due to the unavailability of adequate Police forces.

The SDMC officials made it clear that they will take action against illegal encroachments in every area be it Tughlakabad or Shaheen Bagh. SDMC central zone standing committee Chairman Rajpal said,” Municipality will do its work; our workers & officials are ready, teams & bulldozers have been organized. Encroachments will be removed wherever they are, be it in Tughlakabad, Sangam Vihar, New Friends Colony or Shaheen Bagh.”

While the authorities were doing their work, politics started on this issue. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan came out openly in support of illegal encroachers and sat down with the people protesting against the anti-encroachment drive. In the fast-developing scenario, because of the politics, the authorities had to halt the demolition drive for some time. A plea was filed in the Supreme Court which the honourable court rejected and directed the petitioner to move to the High Court.

Shaheen Bagh: Den for Anti-India provocateurs

Earlier, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 50 kgs of high-quality heroin, 47 kg of suspected narcotics and 30 lakhs of drug money in cash. The value of the seizure was said to be of the tune of 100 crores. Four persons were arrested in this connection including two Afghanistan nationals. The officials suspected that the illegal money was funnelled in through hawala networks and was used for cropping up protests in India to create anarchy and bloodshed. Because of the same reason, the Ministry of Home Affairs had revoked the Foreign Contributions and Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of the trust that was accused of inciting the Delhi riots in 2020.

The Shaheen Bagh initially came into the news when some Muslim women and children sat on the road and started protesting because of the fake news peddled around the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). From then on, the place is becoming a den of illegal and anti-India activities.

The politics around the demolition drive may save the illegal encroachment for some time, but the end result for illegal encroachers will be dire and all illegal structures will be demolished. The respite they are hoping for from the honourable court will not save them from the inevitable. The Bulldozers will very soon ravage the encroachments in Shaheen Bagh.
