The mainstream media, liberal media to be specific, is a hypocrite. The rules keep changing from state to state. What is right for one state is somehow wrong for another state. That’s the liberal media for you. You don’t believe it? Let me present you with a perfect example to depict the hypocrisy and double – standards of Lutyens’ media.
Vulture journalism in Hathras Rape case
The incidents of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, in recent days, where a 19-year old girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men, had converted the area surrounding the village where the alleged crime took place into a media tourist spot, with journalists from various news networks devising new techniques to make an absolute clown out of themselves, even as some went on to verbally harass police personnel on duty.
It did not take long for the national media to descend upon Hathras in UP after the victim succumbed to her injuries. (Mind you, nobody batted an eye while she was alive.) The media, which in India does not know the minutest detail about reporting ethics, took to nauseating levels of moral grandstanding while behaving in a manner that would have the uninitiated to believe that journalists on the ground are the only ones pursuing justice for the victim and that all action taken is due to their relentless fight against a system hell-bent upon subverting the truth.

The media was seen tutoring the victim’s family, even as liberal journalists took it upon themselves to coerce the family while the SIT investigation was underway, perhaps to turn the investigations in a certain direction which will help alleviate the woes of certain TV channels and networks whose ratings off late, across genres, are nosediving.
Bengal rape is not a ‘Badi Khabar’ for liberal media
Reportedly, the son of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat leader has been arrested by the Nadia district police on Saturday in connection with the rape of a teenage girl. Unfortunately, the girl couldn’t survive and died after a few hours of the crime. Reportedly, the minor girl was a student of class 9th.
The case, although, came as an unfortunate revelation but exposed the hypocritical behaviour of the media. The same media that was hell-bent on demeaning Yogi Government has now sealed its lips. There’s no attempt by the media to report the incident the way it did in Uttar Pradesh. No protests by the opposition and no tour to meet the victim’s family, it is surprising to witness how media has gone numb on the Bengal rape case.

Moreover, Chief Minister of the state Mamata Banerjee has issued a spine chilling warning to media houses to simply toe her line for getting continued benefits of state advertisements. She said, ”Even if a chocolate bomb explodes somewhere in the state, Trinamool Congress is held responsible for it. The incident is shown again and again throughout the day. And Anandbazaar is unparalleled in this. They always present negative news.”
Imagine how the left lobby would have reacted if CM Yogi Adityanath had given the same statement. The media would have gone berserk and the opposition would have thrashed him. But, there’s no statement opposing CM Mamata Banerjee. Thus, it can be assumed that rape in UP is a national issue but rape in Bengal is not even worth a news ticker.
