Ditched by Rawalpindi, Is Imran Khan pleasing India to get citizenship?

The political circus of Pakistan has culminated with the ouster of former Prime Minister Imran Khan from office. The Pakistani Army was active throughout the night of Saturday-Sunday, while the Supreme Court of the Islamic country made sure that Imran Khan and his friends were locked up in jails if the no-confidence vote was not executed. All the clowns of Pakistan played their part last night, and the biggest joker found himself unemployed as a consequence. Mind you, Imran Khan has been acting quite desperate for the past few days.

The man knew his political career was coming to an end. Imran put up a brave, albeit unconstitutional fight. So, just to be on the safe side, he made it a point to commend India, its foreign policy, and its sense of autonomy at every opportunity that presented itself before him. Why did he do so, one would think?

Imran Khan’s Overtures to India

Imran Khan’s life is now in danger in Pakistan. He has made very powerful enemies in his country, beginning with no less than the Pakistani Army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa. On Friday, for instance, Imran Khan said, “No superpower can dictate terms to India.” He added that no country could stand up to India when it refused to take sides in the Russia-Ukraine war citing the interests of the people.

Imran Khan also said, “They (India) are buying oil from Russia despite sanctions. Nobody can dictate India. What the European Union ambassadors said here, could they say that to India also?”

Imran Khan has been praising India for quite some time now. Earlier, he had claimed that he was not anti-India, but that the RSS’ ideology and the rejig in Kashmir had made things difficult between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Imran Seeking Refuge?

Pakistan’s Opposition leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Khan has “gone mad“, and added, “If you like India so much then shift there and leave the life of Pakistan.”

It seems Imran Khan is cajoling India so that he can seek refuge in the country. Is Imran Khan yearning for an Indian citizenship? In the long run, perhaps.

On an immediate basis, however, Imran Khan needs refuge. He is no longer safe in Pakistan. For his survival, Imran Khan needs to move out of the Islamic country. Considering the fact that he has burnt all bridges with the United States and its allies, India, it seems, is the only country he has some hope from.

India has granted citizenship to Adnan Sami. However, Adnan Sami is a patriotic Indian who knows the reality of Pakistan and is willing to tell it to the world. Is Imran Khan willing to do so? Moreover, is Imran Khan prepared to fall at the feet of the Modi government, beg for mercy and apologise for the crimes he has committed during his short stint as Prime Minister?

October 2021 Story: ISI chief’s removal puts Imran Khan’s position as well as life under threat

India, for one, has not forgotten Imran Khan’s support for Pakistani terror groups. Under him, the ISI and its terror underlings conducted one of the bloodiest attacks in Kashmir’s Pulwama. Imran Khan waged an international campaign to defame India for its actions in Kashmir. That such a campaign proved to be a dud is a separate story altogether.

Essentially, India will not grant refuge to Imran Khan even if he begs for it. It is now time for the man to face the consequences of his actions. The state of Imran Khan is a lesson for all incoming Pakistani Prime Ministers – do not open your big mouths against India when in office, for you never know when you will have to ask India for shelter and security.
