Biography of RJ Balaji

Balaji Patturaj, better known by his stage name RJ Balaji, is an Indian radio host, comedian, director, cricket pundit, and actor located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is most known for hosting the 92.7 Big FM series The Night Show with RJ Balaji, Take it Easy, and the now-defunct Cross Talk section, in which he made prank calls to unsuspecting listeners. Family

Balaji was born on June 20, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and raised there.

He is the youngest of four siblings, with one younger brother and three younger sisters. His father, he claimed, abandoned his family at some time. Balaji revealed in a 2013 interview with The Hindu that he moved 24 times and attended 11 different schools while growing up in Chennai “Mother can’t seem to stay in one location for long. He’d travel from Perambur to Thiruvanmiyur to Mylapore, never stopping in the same area twice.”

Balaji joined the Amrita School of Communication in Coimbatore for a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism after completing his BSc computer science from Kumararani Meena Muthiah College of Arts in 2006 because he wanted to be like his cousin who worked at NDTV, but when he was asked to write a report on his hostel’s canteen, the 56-word report contained 47 grammatical errors, and he quickly realized that English journalism was not what he was interested.

He saw a newspaper advertisement for a radio station (Radio Mirchi Coimbatore) that was auditioning for radio jockeys at the time and applied, despite the fact that he “had no idea what an RJ was back then.” He claimed that he almost didn’t get selected when he sang a gaana, but that he was finally chosen in November 2006. Since then, he has not finished his journalism course.
