The land grabbing

According to a report by The New Indian, The Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation and DB Power Ltd (a firm of Dainik Bhaskar Group) purchased land from farmers belonging to the ST community. To buy land below the market price, the company hired a local agent. The state industrial corporation also acquired land from the ST community and handed it over to the company.

After receiving a complaint about the fraud, the National Commission of Scheduled Tribes (NCST) took cognizance and issued summons exercising powers under Article 338A of the Constitution of India. However, the Managing Director of Chhattisgarh was present but the revenue secretary was absent. Following this, an arrest warrant has been issued against the secretary.

Crumbling Chhattisgarh under the congress

Recently a video surfaced online, in which a father carrying the mortal remains of his dead child on his shoulders walks 10 Km because the government hospital refused to provide an ambulance. Another shocking gang-rape of a teenager by one Baba Khan and three others shows the inability of congress to run a state. The state of governance under Bhupesh Baghel is reflected in the aforementioned incidents. Chhattisgarh is crumbling, due to the administration’s rampant corruption, lack of doctors and ambulances in hospitals, and increasing crime rate in the state. The recent land grabbing case, involving the government department shows the nexus of government-media-politician. The land belonging to ST farmers are being fraudulently taken and transferred to corporate houses.

JAL-JANGAL-JAMEEN

The principal cause of Tribals is ‘Jal-Jangal-Jameen’. If they will be forced out of their land, they will be vulnerable and may join the Naxalites. Taking the benefit of this vulnerability, they will use this to brainwash their mind and convince them to join the so-called ’cause’. The infamous case of ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ joining Naxalites was, an alleged land dispute and further, no help was received from the administration, that’s why he was allegedly forced to join Naxalism.

Recently, many initiatives have been taken to incentivise the tribal people further to uproot the Naxalism in India. But the incidents like this helped the anti-national forces to run a campaign against the state and the Tribals of the same country were forced into the war against their State.

Although the NCST has taken cognizance of the matter, the congress government in Chhattisgarh should be very careful to not let the Naxal movement rise again. The fraud in land purchased needs to be investigated thoroughly and corrupt officers need to be sent behind the bars.
