Recently, Lata Mangeshkar Ji, one of the most legendary singers and an uncompromising nationalist passed away in Maharashtra. Except for liberals, everyone paid their tribute to her. However, Maharashtra’s MVA government does not look excited about honouring her with a statue.

BJP asks for Lata Ji’s statue

BJP has requested the MVA government to instill a statue of Lata Mangeshkar at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. It is the same place where Melody Queen was cremated with full state honour.

Ram Kadam, BJP MLA for the Ghatkopar West Vidhan Sabha constituency made a formal request through a letter to the Maharashtra government. The letter read, “A more fitting tribute to her would be to erect a memorial dedicated to Lata didi ji at the very same iconic Shivaji Park. There is a growing chorus among her millions of fans worldwide. A memorial can serve as an emotional place where her admirers can pay homage to her memory.”

Shiv Sena can not guarantee

Shiv Sena, one of the members of the MVA coalition has not assured that Lata Didi will be honoured in the way BJP is demanding. Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena’s chief spokesperson diplomatically answered that Lata Didi belongs to the entire world and the MVA government would consider this request.

Raut said that the Maharashtra government will build a memorial for her in the state. However, claiming that only politicians’ statue is built in Shivaji Park, Raut said, “A monument dedicated to Lata Mangeshkar may not be easy since she was not a politician, even though she was part of us, the country, and the world.”

Lata Ji is being honoured all across the country

Lata Mangeshkar’s ashes have been collected from Shivaji Park and family members will choose the place for immersion. According to a Times Now report, ashes are most likely to be immersed in Kashi.

At a time when the MVA government is refraining from building a memorial, the MP government has already made announcements to honour Lata Didi. In Indore, where Lata Didi was born, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government will build a music academy, a museum, a gurudwara and a statue in her memory.

On 6th February 2022, Lata Ji passed away due to multiple organ dysfunction syndromes. India declared two-day mourning due to the demise of the iconic personality Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar. The flag at the Rashtrapati Bhawan was flying half-mast to mark respect to the departed dignitary. However, Liberals found a way to curse her even after her demise.

Building a statue will not be a politically correct move for MVA

As reported by the TFI, recently, Shiv Sena had stoked controversies regarding their changed stances on Veer Savarkar. On the other hand, Lata Ji had been quite a vocal supporter of Savarkar and even compared him to his father.

Even if Shiv Sena musters the courage to push for Lata Ji’s statue, it will be hard to convince Congress for the same, since they have been vocal opponents of Lata Ji. We hope that a great legacy does not get forgotten due to politics.
