Yaser Malik is best known as the father of pop artist and former boy band sensation of One Direction band Zayn Malik. Zayn has been apart from the pop band since 2016 and has produced a solo album, establishing his solo career. In 2010, his son rose to prominence after appearing on The X Factor (UK).

“Flower,” a song from Zayn’s debut solo album, Mind of Mine, is inspired by Yaser Malik. Zayn attributes his love of music to his father, who introduced him to artists such as Prince, Bob Marley, and the Notorious B.I.G. “I suppose it was a bit of a mission of his to convert me on to ’90s hip-hop when I was a kid,” Zayn writes. “It got into my blood when I was a kid.”

Zayn was born in Bradford, England, in the West Lane neighbourhood of Baildon. He has English and Pakistani ancestors. Yaser Malik, a British-Pakistani father, and Patricia, an English mother, gave birth to him. Doniya, his older sister, and Waliyha and Safaa, his younger sisters, are his siblings. He is a devout Muslim, as is his family. Zayn was born and raised in East Bowling, a suburb of Bradford. He attended East Bowling’s Lower Fields Primary School and Tong High School, a state comprehensive school.
“I made sure the children attended the mosque,” Zayn’s mother, Trisha, told the BBC in 2013 about her son’s religious upbringing. Zayn has completed three readings of the Holy Quran. ” Trisha worked as a halal chef at a primary school when Zayn was younger, preparing meals for Muslim students.

Zayn auditioned for the seventh series of The X Factor in Manchester when he was 17 years old. He said in the film This Is Us and in a 2015 Fader magazine interview that if his mother hadn’t dragged him out of bed that morning, he would not have gone to his audition. He explained that he went to the audition because he “felt obligated to her.”
Zayn performed “Let Me Love You,” a Mario hit from 2004. Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, and Nicole Scherzinger were all in favour of him. His audition was not initially shown, however it was eventually broadcast on The Xtra Factor for a limited time.
In bootcamp, Zayn was known for getting scared and distant, and he notoriously refused to participate in a dance performance until Simon Cowell personally urged him to do so. He made it beyond the dancing stage but not past bootcamp, where he was first eliminated as a solo artist but was later called back to join the group that would become One Direction.
