The Congress is running a campaign called ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Congress general secretary and UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, under the campaign, has been talking about women issues. However, Priyanka Gandhi, out of the blue, raising her voice for women rights, is no co-incidence. It is a planned strategy to woo female voters a few days ahead of the assembly elections.
Congress’ giving tickets to ‘victim’ women
Under the ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ campaign, Congress is providing tickets to a woman from the family of Unnao and Hathras rape victims to gain the sympathy of the people and encash votes from them.

Asha Singh, the mother of the 2017 Unnao rape victim, is among the candidates who will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh on a Congress ticket.
The Unnao rape case grabbed the limelight after the victim attempted suicide outside the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The family of the victim was provided with financial assistance of around Rs 2.5 crore and a flat in Delhi.
While the opposition is playing ‘woman sympathy card’, there are speculations that the move will backfire for the Congress in Unnao. Locals have stated that everyone knows about the “reality of Asha Singh’s family” and nobody is going to stay in their favour. They further claim that most of the members of the family are history-sheeters.
Hathras Rape Victim’s family denied ticket by Congress
Though Congress successfully persuaded Asha Singh to run its marketing campaign, it has been brutally humiliated by Hathras rape victim family. The family has rejected Congress’s offers to fight elections on a ticket provided by the age-old party. They seemingly have trust and confidence in the current ruling government led by Yogi Adityanath. Furthermore, they believe that justice will prevail.

For the unversed, a three-fold protection mechanism, comprising armed constabulary, civil police, and CCTV cameras and lights, was reportedly deployed at the victim’s village entrance, house and surroundings by Yogi Government.
However, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra suddenly began sympathizing with these victims. In her rallies, she has been talking about women power and has exhibited confidence in converting the crowd into votes. She also promised that 40 percent of the tickets will be allotted to women. The UP in-charge also promised to empower women, primarily low-income groups, through various schemes and programmes if the grand old party forms the government.
The party, however, will fall flat on its face as these tactics are not going to help it encash the votes.
