Galwan and Buddha: A really bad week for Chinese Propaganda machinery

If Xi Jinping and his minions at CCP thought 2021 was a bad year, the New Year has been off to an even worse start. The shame-filled week started with Beijing’s childish theatrics in Galwan causing a major embarrassment which eventually culminated with an insipid and failed muscle-flexing tactic in Tibet.

The entire propaganda machinery of CCP spearheaded by Global Times on January 1 released a video wherein PLA personnel were seen unfurling the Chinese flag at what the publication claimed to be the Galwan Valley. However, before Beijing could thump its own chest, social media users on Chinese social media platform Weibo remarked that CCP had hired actors to film the video.

Media reports quoted Weibo users confirming that the shooting, which lasted for almost 4 hours, took place about 28 kilometres behind Galwan River, deep within the Chinese-controlled Aksai Chin region.

India rubs in on the misery of China

To rub in on the misery of China, India released a photo from Galwan where the brave Indian soldiers were proudly holding the fort. The photographs were also posted by Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju on Twitter with the caption “brave Indian Army soldiers in Galwan Valley on the occasion of #NewYear2022.”

In one of the photos, released by the sources in the Indian security establishment, around 30 Indian soldiers were seen with the national flag. Meanwhile, another photo showed the group with four of them holding the national flag and another tri-colour flying high on a flagpole adjacent to a temporary observation post.

Insecure China, satiating its bruised ego in Tibet

Reeling under shame, an insecure China shifted elsewhere to feel good about itself. Akin to what the Taliban does when it wants to assert its dominance, the Chinese authorities earlier this week demolished a 99-foot, venerated statue of Buddha in a Tibetan region of Sichuan. To show its strength and demoralize the Tibetans, the CCP event forced the monks to watch the demolition.

While the official version was that the statue was too high, the locals confirmed that it was Beijing’s way to recreate the actions of the Cultural Revolution of 1966-76 when the Chinese government destroyed everything that was old in Tibet.

India has been making moves regarding Tibet

China destroying the Buddha statue shows the desperation of Xi Jinping. However, this is not the first time that China has been rattled. While a layman may not see the connection, the events in Tibet, much like Galwan has an Indian connection.

As reported by TFI, the Indian members of parliament, including the union minister in the last week of December held a meeting with the Tibetan government-in-exile.

India’s second-highest rank diplomat Maneka Gandhi also attended the dinner hosted by Tibetan officials which demoralized the Chinese. In a fit of anger, China fired back by writing letters to Indian MPs.

Interestingly, it was for the first time that any foreign diplomat had written to any Indian member of parliament in an official capacity. The Chinese embassy in New Delhi expressed its “concern” over their participation and asked them to “refrain from providing support to the ‘Tibetan independence’ forces”.

India planning to install BrahMos near Tibet

Moreover, flustered at the prospect of Indian armed forces deploying BrahMos supersonic missile in advanced outposts, targeting parts of China-controlled Tibet and other regions, Global Times in November had furnished another feature-length embarrassing piece.

The CCP mouthpiece in an article titled, “India’s plan to deploy BrahMos missile escalates border tension, but of no actual threat: observers” tried to posture that India deploying the BrahMos missile was a no biggie. However, the tone and tenor of the article suggested otherwise.

Furthermore, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished his holiness Dalai Lama by tweeting a birthday message last year, the Chinese were up in arms about the gesture. Such was the anxiety within the CCP camp that President Xi Jinping hurriedly dispatched himself to the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) on a surprise visit to soothe the jangling nerves.

China is agitated that New Delhi is making serious moves and coming out on top. Given how the year has started, Beijing should brace itself, for a whole world of misery is coming its way this year.
