“You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take” – Wayne Gretzky – Michael Scott
Taking the above adage to heart, out-of-favour part-time actress and full-time Social Justice Warrior (SJW) Swara Bhaskar on Wednesday (December 1) in a conversation with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee subtly asked for an employment opportunity.
Reportedly, Mamata who is currently in Mumbai as part of her whirlwind countrywide tour to expand her party’s footprint met the coterie of left-leaning super intellectuals in an enclosed space where Swara, like a child in a school morning assembly, eager to recite the monotonous slogan, took the microphone and let it all out – her pain and sorrow whilst ruing the lack of job opportunities.
We are doing our bit — Swara Bhaskar
Starting her charade by tugging at Mamata’s socialist strings, Swara said, “Everyone in this room is doing their bit. There are older, illustrious people who have spent their lives on it”
She later went on to introduce a rather similar bunch of unemployed SJWs like Munawar Faruqi, Aditi Mittal, Agrima Joshua, Richa Chaddha and Kubra Sait and waxed lyrical that they had been the ideal footsoldiers for TMC.
Bhaskar claimed that those fighting to preserve the ‘idea of India’ are sandwiched between two sides: the mob of ‘unaccountable’ people and the State that uses measures to curb freedom.
Showing her subtle hatred for Hindu gods and customs she also added, “There is a state which is distributing the UAPA and sedition charges as a prasad from a God we don’t want to pray to,”
We are unemployed: Swara Bhasker
However, the segue of her speech boiled down to a single sentence where she stated, “We all are unemployable today,” Perhaps, Swara was trying to gain entry into TMC, which lately has seen a deluge of political opportunists joining the party, hoping to land the elusive Rajya Sabha seat.

Netizens had a field time taking potshots at Swara for getting rather passionate at her job interview speech. One netizen remarked that Sawara didn’t have the required skill set to excel as an actor and thus was trying to hide from herself
“When you don’t want to admit tot he fact that you are unemployable because of your incompetency and blame the society. Dear People, improve your craft and stop playing victim.” said the user.

Another compared Swara’s outburst to a class monitor by stating, “This sounds like a classroom. The class monitor complaining to the headmistress. One clown complaining to another clown about harassment to clowns.”

Mamata Banerjee has been buoyed ever since she won the assembly elections, earlier this year in May and has been looking to emulate a similar feat on the national map. She is recruiting heavily and thus Swara tried to take the shot. And yes, she brought Meryl Streep into the conversation as well, miserably trying to portray herself as an embodiment of the Hollywood actress.
