Mahua Moitra, the foul-mouthed MP of TMC, is known for making unparliamentary statements in Lok Sabha in a sophisticated accent. Her speeches normally have no content and most of the time, are filled with the typical liberal rants like fascism, dictatorship, authoritarianism, and so on. In a shocking turn, her own party leader, that is, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went on to silence her on the backdrop of infighting and trouble within the Nadia district leadership.
A clear message to Mahua by Mamata:
During an administrative review meeting of Nadia district on Thursday, TMC Supremo Mamata came down heavily on Mahua Moitra. Mamata, to express her resentment, said, “…And Mahua, I want to give you a clear message. I don’t want to know who is against whom. To prepare one’s own set of people who will appear on YouTube, or digital medium, or newspaper paper – this kind of politics can last for one day, but not for long. There is no reason to believe that one stays in a position forever.”
Moving further, she also warned Moitra and asserted, “During elections, the party will decide who will contest and who will not. There should be no difference of opinion and everyone has to work together. I have the knowledge about everything.”
Infights in TMC:
Interestingly, Moitra was recently unseated as the party’s Nadia district president that led to the rise of two factions of TMC who are against each other within the district. These infights and trouble within the party angered Mamata Didi.
Referring to posters that were put up accusing a faction of the TMC leadership of corruption, Banerjee asserted that “The recent clash within the party was an act of sabotage, and investigation by the police has revealed who was behind this.“ An inquiry by the police was conducted and I know who is behind this. This entire episode was staged and then leaked to the media. Everyone has to work together.”
“It is not the actual incident. It was curated and planted to the media. I have cross checked it through the CID,” she added.
Well, Karma never disappoints and this has been proved by the case of Mahua. Known for her comments on dictatorship and authoritarianism, she keeps spewing venoms against journalists and other judicial authorities. However, she has got the taste of her own medicine and that too by her own party leader. Had she been the part of the BJP, no one would have silenced her for having different opinions, unlike Mamata Banerjee.
