Not just on borders, Pakistan is trying to trample India by corrupting our youth as well. Now, India has finally upped the ante by taking up war-like measures against the Pakistani drug trade with the seizure of Rs 400 crores worth of heroin.
Pakistani nationals with heroin nabbed by India
6 Pakistani nationals have been nabbed by a joint operation conducted by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Indian Coast Guard. They were carrying a total of 77 kg of heroin (a banned drug in India) in a Pakistani boat. These drugs are worth more than 400 crores. Crew members were using code words like Hari-1 and Hari-2 for the delivery of drugs. The boat was apprehended 35 nautical miles off the Jakhau coast in the Kutch district of Gujarat.
Karachi to Punjab- The journey of drugs
According to a press release by the Gujarat ATS, the drug consignment was loaded on a fishing boat in Karachi, with its final destination being in Indian waters. The boat belongs to a Pakistani man called Shahbaz Ali. The drugs on the boat were supplied to its crew members by a fibre boat at a distance of six nautical miles from Karachi Port. Haji Hasan and Haji Hasam have been identified as two Pakistani smugglers who supplied the Heroine to the boat.
According to a tip-off, drugs were supposed to be delivered to people with underworld connections in Punjab. As soon as they received the tip-off, ATS and Coast Guard started patrolling with their interceptors. Soon, the boat named ‘Al Husseini’ came under their radar. When crew members of the boat found themselves surrounded by all sides, they tried to flee, but were unsuccessful and had to surrender in order to save their lives.

Pakistan has been using borders to sell drugs in India
This is not the first time that Pakistan has been caught red-handed in its attempts to corrupt Indian youth through drugs. In April this year, the collaborative efforts by Coast Guard and ATS had resulted in the seizure of drugs worth more than 150 crores. In September 2021, a carbon copy of the April operation by both forces resulted in the seizure of 30kg of heroin worth more than 150 crores.
Similarly, in November, ATS raided an under-construction house in Gujarat’s Morbi district and seized heroin worth more than 600 crores. According to ATS, between August 2018 and December 2021, they have seized 920 kg of drugs worth more than 4,600 crores. In almost all of these seizures, there was a direct causal connection between drug dealers and Pakistan.
Adani Port has refused to handle any Pakistani consignment
On September 13, around 3,000 kilograms of heroin was seized from two containers at Gujarat’s Mundra port, run by the Adani Group. The heroin was concealed in jumbo bags said to contain unprocessed talc powder. The drug was placed in the lower layers of the bags and then topped with talc stones to avoid detection. The seizure – made during a joint operation by the Customs department and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence – was valued at around Rs 20,000 crore.

As soon as it was found that there were Pakistani hands in the drug cartel, Adani Ports refused to handle any cargo coming from Pakistan, Taliban-led Afghanistan and Iran.
Selling drugs is the only way for Pakistan to earn money
Ever since, Taliban imposed itself on Afghan territory, the menace of drugs has increased in South Asia. Afghanistan is the biggest producer as well as supplier of illicit heroin and hashish all around the world. Since India’s active diplomacy has shut down almost all hopes of international funding for the Taliban(except Pakistan and China), Pakistan and the Taliban are looking to sell Afghan made drugs for funding their terrorist campaigns against India and their other enemies.

The proactive surveillance by the Indian defence establishment has been acting as a buffer for India. However, there are some politicians in India who are advocating for opening up border trade with Pakistan. These kinds of idiosyncrasies will give a free hand to Pakistan and only weaken India. Continuing with their offence against Pakistani elements, Indian forces should increase their vigil inside India as well.
