Introduction to Biju Ramesh
Biju Ramesh is a multi-millionaire businessman and a well-known liquor baron in Kerala. Swapna Suresh, the main suspect in the gold smuggling case, is a distant relative to him. Biju Ramesh has a reputation for being outspoken and professes to be a warrior against corruption. He is also a member of the Kerala Bar Hotel Association’s board of directors. His son in law is the MP of Attingal from the Congress Party.
He rose to prominence after accusing the UDF of reducing bar license costs by giving Rs 20 crore to then-health minister V S Sivakumar, KPCC president Chennithala, during the Oomen Chandy-led UDF government.
He had claimed that Jose K Mani of the Kerala Congress (M), who had left the UDF to join the ruling LDF, had promised him Rs 10 crore if he would withdraw his comments about party chairman K M Mani’s complicity in the scandal. During the period when the LDF was admitting the Jose K Mani faction to the alliance, this revelation put the LDF in a tight spot.

Bar bribery case
The High Court has ordered that businessman Biju Ramesh be prosecuted for presenting altered audio snippets as evidence in court in connection with a bar bribery allegation. The court overturned the Magistrate Court’s decision that Biju Ramesh could not be prosecuted for falsifying documents.
Sreejith, a Thiruvananthapuram resident, filed a complaint with the Magistrate Court against Biju Ramesh, alleging that he presented forged evidence in court. This happened shortly after Biju made some shocking comments about the bar bribery issue. However, in November of last year, the court denied his plea, noting that no legal action could be taken in this case.

Ramesh claimed in a media trial that Swapna Suresh, the prime accused in the gold smuggling case, is a distant relative of him. Biju Ramesh, a billionaire businessman and a major liquor baron in Kerala, further said that Swapna Suresh is a distant cousin of him. She is the granddaughter of one of his father’s cousins.
