The ongoing tussle in Punjab Congress has been the talk of the town for a while now. From Sidhu’s induction as PPCC Chief to Amarinder’s exit from the party, the state of Punjab Congress has time and again demonstrated that the political acumen of the high brass of the party is almost negligible. Taking advantage of Congress’ misery, BJP is all set to encash votes to sweep the state in upcoming Punjab elections 2022 and Amarinder Singh needs to be acclaimed for the same.
Amarinder plus BJP equals BJP’s victory in Punjab
A few months after Amarinder resigned from the party in the aftermath of humiliation, he kept hinting towards the formation of his party to fight Congress. Given the rift of PPCC Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and Ex-Chief Minister of Punjab, Amarinder had made up his mind to show his political strength because of the personality he holds. Thus, he announced his party called the Punjab Lok Congress and announced that it would contest all 117 assembly seats.

In a massive show of political strength, Amarinder has stepped up with the decision to form the next government in the state along with the BJP and a breakaway Akali faction. While interacting with NDTV, Amarinder asserted, “I have already met the Home Minister and spoken to him about an alliance. On Saturday, I hope to see the BJP president.”
Earlier, after a key meeting with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Captain had said, “There was no political development. I had a very nice cup of coffee with the Chief Minister. Wait for the time. Everything is going fine. People are very upbeat and our membership drive is going well. God willing, we and with our seat adjustment with the BJP and with Mr. (Sukhdev Singh) Dhindsa party (SAD Sanyukt), we will form the government.”
“There’s a total swing towards the BJP” –Capt Amarinder
Amarinder, in a hush manner, has always been on good terms with BJP. His only condition for an alliance with the BJP was the action over three revolutionary farm laws. Now, after the Modi Government has repealed the three farm laws, Amarinder has begun applauding BJP.
He acknowledged the fact that BJP will sweep the state in the next Punjab elections. He asserted, “As of today, our own feedback is that there’s a total swing towards the BJP. Many Hindus are supporting the BJP and my party. There are 36% Hindus in Punjab and we are going to take up that chunk, more than the Congress. Hopefully, we will also get a lot of support from farmers.”
Not only Captain hinted towards the BJP’s conquest in upcoming elections, but he also stood by the party’s side to support it. He stated, “Not at all uncomfortable with the BJP’s communal language and argued communalism was not an issue in Punjab.”
Changed political dynamics will benefit BJP
Witnessing Captain Amarinder Singh’s newfound party alliance with BJP, it can be speculated the massive change in political dynamics will be an interesting watch as it is going to change the way Punjab politics works. Amarinder Singh’s political strength can be understood from the fact that he was the one who catapulted the Congress to power even at a time when the Akalis were enjoying a tight grip on the state of Punjab.
Amarinder, who is himself a Jat Sikh, enjoys considerable popularity amongst both Jat Sikhs and the Dalit Sikhs, in Punjab. At the same time, he is probably the only mainstream leader who also speaks against Khalistani elements and the killings of Punjabi Hindus by Khalistani elements at the peak of insurgency in Punjab. So, he also wins a sizeable share of the Hindu vote.

The BJP already seems to be getting Hindu and Dalit Sikh votes in Punjab. A pre-poll alliance with Amarinder Singh can turn out to be a force multiplier for the BJP and solidify its popularity with the Punjabi Hindus and Dalit Sikhs.
Thus, the changing political dynamics of the state will eventually help BJP to encash the huge number of votes. Well, it will be a pleasure to see BJP’ CM in the power in the state of Punjab.
