K Radhakrishnan: The brave IPS officer who refused to frame RSS for the killing of CPM worker is now battling for his life

CPM, IPS Officer, K Radhakrishnan

There exists a variety of people in the world. While many can stoop to any low to peddle their agenda, others would rather choose to die than compromising on morals and ethics. The example for the latter is K Radhakrishnan, an IPS officer who was allegedly suspended from service for four-and-a-half years for refusing to frame RSS for the killing of a CPM worker.

K Radhakrishnan: The brave IPS officer

K Radhakrishnan, once a reputed IPS officer was working as a security officer at a private company to earn a living. This is the price he had to pay for his ethics and nationalism. He was not only suspended from his service but was tortured mentally and physically. In addition to that, he was also denied retirement and pension benefits. Well, the reason behind such brutal treatment was nothing but the fact that Radhakrishnan had refused to accept the
narrative of the ruling party to frame RSS in the Fazal murder case.

K Radhakrishnan informed, “They will kill me any time. I am prepared to accept my destiny. But I want to ensure the safety of my children before that.My daughter, who is a research scholar has opted for part-time research as we cannot afford her hostel expenses. My son who is a postgraduate had to drop out of the civil service coaching course. I had to sell my family property to fight the case and my house was auctioned by the bank as I defaulted on loan repayment.”

Fazal murder case

Mohammed Fazal was killed by a gang on October 22, 2006, after he left the CPM and joined NDF. Radhakrishnan, the officer with a clear record, was inducted as the investigating officer to probe the murder.

Narrating the story, Radhakrishnan asserted, “The very next day of Fazal murder, the CPM had held a protest meeting where area secretary KarayiRajan named four RSS workers who, he claimed, were involved in the murder. I detained all of them, recorded their statements and tracked all their activities before and after the incident. On day 2, home minister KodiyeriBalakrishnan summoned me to Payyambalam Guest House and directed me to file the chargesheet within seven days. As I was convinced that the RSS men were not involved in the murder, I released them which antagonised the CPM leadership.”

He further told that he was summoned by the home minister and was asked to inform him before taking action against any party member. Later, he was removed from the investigation, and the case was handed over to the crime branch.

In a shocking revelation, Radhakrishnan told that those who had crucial information regarding the murder of Fazal were killed mysteriously. Valsaraja Kurup, a BJP leader, was also killed allegedly by the blade mafia.

Radhakrishnan’s struggle

Thereafter, Radhakrishnan was brutally assaulted by a group of party workers and he had to spend one-and-a-half years in the hospital to recover. “There were three more attempts on my life after that,” he said.

He was suspended yet again in 2016 when he was conferred IPS. After fighting a four-and-a-half-year-long legal battle to get reinstated, he was given the KAP fifth battalion commandant for eight months. “The memo was served at 4.30 pm by a special messenger. Even my plea for professional pension was rejected,” he said.

K Radhakrishnan is an inspiration for all as he is the perfect example of a nationalist as well as an honest bureaucrat.
