Shankar Dixit was the father of popular actress Madhuri Dixit. After a prolonged illness Shankar Dixit died on 13th September 2013. He was an Engineer by profession. He belonged to a Marathi Kokanastha Brahmin family. He married Snehalata and have four children and their youngest daughter is Madhuri Dixit Nene. Shankar and his family were simple people who come from an ordinary background.

The family lives in Mumbai. Shankar Dixit, was an engineer who had lost a lot of money from being scammed by some of his close relatives. His wife was a dancer who had become a housewife later and Shankar and Snehalata Dixit have a son named Ajit and three daughters, Bharti, Rupa and Madhuri. Bharti and Ajit became doctors and Rupa became architect and soon they settled in America. Madhuri was the only one left with her parents and she was studying at Parle College and had ambitions to be a microbiologist, but her fate had other plans for her.

Shankar Dixit on her Daughter Madhuri’s success
A writer and director named Govind Moonis who also lived in J.B Nagar, same residence of Shankar Dixit saw Madhuri and asked her parents if they would be interested in seeing their daughter as an actress.
They thought seriously about the idea and finally accepted and Madhuri got her first opportunity as an actress in Abodh. The first man to predict stardom for her was her own father, Dixit, and then no one stopped her until she was ranked among the top after her “Ek, Do, Teen” performance.

Madhuri Dixit’s father Death
Madhuri Dixit’s father, died the morning of September 13 2013. He was 91 years old. The funeral was held at a crematorium in Oshiwada. After his death Madhuri’s manager said that the actress’ father was living with her and was ill for a period of time and died at their Juhu residence.
Madhuri expressed her feelings after his death by saying “He will be missed but we know he has lived a busy life. We thank everyone who offered their condolences and prayers.”
