Punjab Congress is caught up in the controversies yet again as the new chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s son was seen at an official meeting. Soon after the news broke out, opposition and the media began slamming the Congress party, claiming that Punjab’s internal security is a matter of Joke to the incumbent Chief Minister Channi.
Channi’s son at a high-level government security meeting
According to the ‘Hindustan Times’ report, DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota was chairing a meeting with officials over the law-and-order situation in the border state on Thursday. The meeting grabbed the limelight as Channi, while himself attending the meet, also took his son Rhythmjit Singh with him which can which can be seen in photos that have gone viral on social media. In the pictures, Rhythymjit can be seen in the background, sitting behind the state police chief.
The Times of India citing retired bureaucrats and legal experts reported that the presence of a family member of the Chief Minister or any minister violates the Rules of Business of the state government.
BJP objected to Channi’s son sitting in the meeting
Soon after the pictures went viral, BJP objected to Channi’s son sitting in the meeting. Journalist Aman Singh Chinna took to Twitter to inform about the objection raised by BJP. He tweeted, “BJP has objected to Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi’s son sitting in a law and order meeting with DGP and other officers and ministers. He can be seen in these pics sitting in the back. Interestingly these pics were released by Punjab Govt Directorate of Public Relations.”

Punjab unit president of the BJP while slamming Channi, had said, “As a three-term legislator, Channi should have been aware of rules and regulations. It is unfortunate that senior bureaucrats allowed this despite being aware of the norms.”
Channi and Sidhu: A new tussle in Punjab Congress
After former CM Amarinder Singh stepped down from his post, Charanjit Singh Channi, who is assumed to be Sidhu’s man Friday, took over as the Chief Minister of Punjab. With Channi inducted as Chief Minister, Sidhu was daydreaming of controlling him to take major decisions including the cabinet reshuffle.

However, Channi refused to be Sidhu’s puppet and wanted his men to be inducted into the cabinet. Whereas Sidhu, as he always does, was keenly interested in taking decisions regarding cabinet reshuffle. The whole development led to Sidhu’s resignation from the post of PPCC chief. However, the high command has not accepted his resignation yet.
