The state of Uttarakhand got its third Chief Minister in under five years in July when BJP dumped Trivendra Singh Rawat to bring a relative greenhorn in Pushkar Singh Dhami to the centerstage. The reason for Rawat’s ouster was simple. Despite being an elected representative of predominantly a Hindu party, Rawat hogged media limelight for all wrong reasons like the government’s takeover of temple trusts.
His government’s policies were not popular and he was reportedly seen as an arrogant man by the people of the state as well as other party leaders, just like former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das, who lost the election to Hemant Soren.
Manohar Lal Khattar and his Muslim appeasement:
If BJP could sacrifice Rawat to make way for a pro-Hindu voice, what is stopping it from doing the same in Haryana? Its Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has become a full-time secular leader, going all out to appease Muslims.
Reportedly, ever since the controversy surrounding Muslims hijacking public places to perform namaz gained traction, Khattar has been pushing and punishing Hindus for raising their voices.
If one wants to understand ‘secularism’ working in its shining glory in the country, then look no further than the Gurugram police, working effectively under CM Khattar. According to news reports, on Friday, 500 cops guarded namaz spots in Gurugram, and Hindu activists protesting against offering namaz in public were arrested.
KK Rao, the commissioner of Gurugram police, said that following clear instructions in the matter from Haryana Chief Minister, the police ensured that there are no disruptions in the present arrangements. Rao said, “All the police teams have been directed to take strict action against those who try to harass anyone offering namaz”.

Gurgaon police and its baffling behaviour:
It all started in September, when a video went viral on the realms of social media platforms, where local Gurugram residents were seen pleading before the Gurugram police to remove a group of Muslims, hogging space on a public road and offering namaz. However, turning a deaf ear to their pleas, the Gurugram police simply walked away.
It later tweeted a baffling update to wash its hands off the controversy, which it was forced to delete later. “The ‘Namaz’ spots at public places have been decided by both Hindu and Muslim communities after mutual understanding and this place is one among them. Maintaining communal harmony and peace is our utmost responsibility and we will ensure that. @PMOIndia @cmohry @police_haryana” .

BJP should emulate Uttarakhand model:
Khattar has been walking on a tight rope with his Muslim appeasement tactics. Moreover, like the secular governments of other states, the Haryana government earlier this month banned the sale or use of all kinds of firecrackers in 14 districts, completely.
The move was taken after the Haryana State Pollution Board directed all 14 districts to impose a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers, with immediate effect. While firecrackers contribute a tiny fraction to the pollution problem, the fact that all state governments, the secular ones to be specific, have used Diwali as an effective decoy to hide their failures. The likes of Khattar believe that banning firecrackers on Diwali can solve the pollution quandary.
With such problematic behavior, Khattar is digging a hole for himself. It is high time that BJP emulates its Uttarakhand model and shows the door to Khattar.
