In an unprecedented incident of directly confronting the alleged anti-nationals, students from UP and Bihar beat up their colleagues who were cheering for inimical Pakistan during the India Vs Pakistan match in the T20 world cup 2021.
UP, Bihar students beat anti-nationals in Punjab
Bhai Gurdas College of Engineering & Technology in Sangrur, Punjab became a sight of the violent clash when Kashmiri students were allegedly beaten by a few patriotic students. The clash made headlines when videos of the violent encounter were shared by the students inside the campus on social media. The videos were mainly pushed by Kashmiri students, Jammu and Kashmir students’ association, and Punjab Youth Congress.

Initial videos around the alleged incident showed Kashmiri students claiming (without proof) that they were attacked by other students group on the campus. Later a Facebook page called ‘Insta Kashmir’ shared a live video in which Kashmiri students inside the college are wielding sticks, tube lights, tube light rods, iron rods, and cricket bats in the hostel corridor, shouting “Kashmir” and “we want justice”. Due to a poorly planned propaganda stream, one student can be seen shouting ‘Hum Pakistan se aaye hain (We have come from Pakistan). Showing their injuries, a student claimed that he and his brethren were beaten by other students, “just because we supported Pakistan”. They can also be seen complaining that the guards of the college did not interfere to save them.
Police confirm ‘Azaadi’ slogans were raised
A senior police officer of Sangrur said that cheering for the Pakistani team along with the slogans for ‘Azaadi’ were raised in the hostel. According to Indian Express, he said, “There are about 90 Kashmiri students and around 30 students from UP and Bihar in the college. Kashmiri students stay in the 2 wings of the hostel. While the match was on, the students cheered when Pakistan was hitting runs. They also raised Azadi slogans.” He further added, “After the match ended, students from UP and Bihar went inside the rooms of Kashmiri students and had a scuffle with them. Later, the Kashmiri students also had a scuffle with the students from UP and Bihar. The police and college authorities pacified things overnight.”
Similar incidents have been reported from Kharar, Mohali. Reports claimed that at least 4 students were assaulted in Kharar. “All the students are from Rayat Bahrat University. They said that they were hit by several goons from Haryana,” said Nasie Khuehami, the national spokesperson J&K Students Association.

Meanwhile, many rumors of suspension of Bihari and UP students also surfaced on the internet. However, TFI has confirmed from Sangrur University, and it was stated that no student was suspended.
Cheering for Pakistan is not new
When Pakistan registered a 10-wicket victory over India in the T20 world cup match, reports of people cheering for Pakistan from various parts of India were reported. Cheering for the Pakistani cricket team is a direct consequence of the liberal tilt of academia operating in the country. However, it is probably one of the rare instances when nationalists have given a fight back inside the campus.
It’s shameful that after 75 years of partition, a large section of the Indian public, as well as intelligentsia, are still cheering for Pakistan. It’s true that violence is not a solution to any problem, but continuously tolerating anti-national attitudes should never be the way forward for any country.
Public very much appreciates and fully support Bihari and UP students for standing up to the anti India elements who stoked the feelings of the nation. The managements of all the institutes nationwide must take stern action and remove any student who are not loyal to India and make sure these anti national incidents never repeats in the future. It’s Govt of India’s full responsibility to bring in a public policy against anti national loyalists.
