YouTuber Ishan LLB Case
YouTuber Ishan Siddiqui runs a YouTube channel Ishan LLB and has more than 45 lakh subscribers to his YouTube channel. He was detained by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on 24th September 2019 evening from his Jamia Nagar residence. According to authorities, YouTuber Ishan LLB had created a fake website for a madrassa board in Uttar Pradesh and used it to lure viewers to his channel.
The police further said that his main motivation was to attract more viewers and subscribers to his YouTube videos and channels. According to officials, Ishan had created a fake Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Council website to attract viewers to his channel. The channel Ishan LLB has over four point five million subscribers, as verified by PTI. The estimated average revenue from advertising on channel Ishan LLB depends on language, price and current audience.

Following his arrest and jail time of approximately five months, YouTuber Ishan LLB revealed in one of his videos that he is alumni of the said madrassa board. Since, the board didn’t maintain any sort of website of its own he voluntarily added the particulars about the board for aiding admission seekers. He further revealed that media has wrongfully accused him of crimes he never committed. Siddiqui was furious for the reason that him being a former student of the board was making an attempt to grow the reputation of the board and they failed to acknowledge his intention.
He further added that the advocate representing him in the sessions court failed to make a strong case and defend his actions, due to public holidays and advocates strike his bail application couldn’t move further. YouTuber Ishan LLB had purchased the domain name in 2016 and would be valid till 2020, his defended himself by showing that after the board had created their website, he resumed control over the purchased domain name and stopped all the transactions.

The madrassa board alleged that the youtuber Ishan LLB had attempted to tarnish its name by displaying irrelevant information about the board without their consent, he willfully did such an act to attract more viewers and gain subscribers. The board further questioned the authenticity of the website and that no one except the Madrassa board is authorized to create such website.
The defendant had created a fake Uttar Pradesh Madrassa Board website and used it to attract an audience on Ishan LLB YouTube channel, a senior official said. “An official from the Madrassa Board of Education had approached UP Police in June of this year with a complaint about the bogus website operating on behalf of the Madrassa board,” said Vishal Vikram Singh, additional superintendent of police, ST.
This act by the youtuber Ishan LLB amounts to cybercrime, the authorities booked him for fraud under the Indian penal code and other relevant sections of the information technology Act. The defendant stated that his actions were merely innocent and on the website for the madrassa board created by him, he also posted instruction to subscribe his channel and promote his channel videos.
