Union minister Narayan Rane, on Tuesday, was detained by the Maharashtra Police for his remarks against the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. In the statement, he said he wished to slap chief minister Uddhav Thackeray for forgetting the number of years since Indian independence. The unlawful use of Police machinery to go after a minister is similar to how West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been using police as its tacit accomplice to slaughter BJP, non-TMC supporters and voters in the aftermath of the assembly elections.
As reported by TFI, Thackeray, during his August 15 address had made confusing statements regarding India’s Independence Day year. Afterwards, Narayan Rane slammed Thackeray and said, “It is shameful that the chief minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back to enquire [with his chief secretary] about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given him a slap under his ears”
However, the court granted Rane bail rejecting a seven-day police custody plea whilst been asked to furnish a bond of Rs 15,000. The Mumbai Police with its hands tied behind could not help but follow the dictatorial orders of its overlords sitting at the top in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
This is not the first time that snowflake Uddhav has used the police uniform to settle his personal scores. The Maharashtra CM had gone after Republic TV journalist Arnab Goswami after the latter questioned the Uddhav government’s alliance partner Congress. Arnab was arrested, put in jail, and hounded.
While being forced in a police van and taken to jail, Arnab had remarked, “My life is under threat. My life is under threat. Not being allowed to speak to lawyers. They assaulted me this morning. Woke me up at 6 am, said I can’t speak to my lawyers. Please tell people of India my life is under threat,”
During the Sushant Singh Rajput death probe, the Bihar police had sent a team of police officials to get to the end of the investigation. However, Patna City SP Vinay Tiwari was forcefully quarantined by the BMC upon arrival in Mumbai on August 2 last year, his hand stamped indicating the isolation period was to last till August 15.
The forceful and discriminatory quarantining of a senior police official from Bihar by civic authorities in Mumbai had only cemented the nationwide perception of the Maharashtra government and its proxies in various departments creating a hostile environment for the Bihar police team.
Similarly, a video at the time had started doing the rounds of social media, in which Mumbai Police officials could allegedly be seen pushing Bihar Police officials towards a van. The said video had raised grim questions on the mishandling of the Bihar Police officials by their counterparts in Mumbai. Such was the ghastly behaviour meted out to them that even media persons were forced to call out Mumbai Police officers on the scene.

The Maharashtra Police had also relentlessly tried to intimidate Kangana Ranaut over supposed provocative statements made by her in the past. Unsurprisingly, charges of sedition were rigorously pursued against Kangana and her sister, Rangoli Chandel. However, the actress stood her ground, despite her office being razed by the BMC goons and even today continues to give it back to Uddhav.
The Uddhav government has presumably emulated this behaviour from West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, as violence, murder, rapes are common and everyday occurrences in the Eastern state. Be it the chaos of the West Bengal Police in the case of arresting the accused related to the Narada and Saradha scam, or the arrest of the CBI officers who went to interrogate the Kolkata Police Commissioner, the Bengal Police has repeatedly crossed limits to shield Mamata and her ilk. The two states have turned their police forces into private militia.
