The Congress party has been the reason for its downfall and because of the in-fighting and tussle between prominent leaders, the party will soon have to witness its end even in those states where it is currently ruling. The ongoing tussle between Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and State Unit Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has been the talk of the town for a while now. Sidhu has been frequently making allegations against Amarinder and recently, he came up with a serious allegation against him yet again and praised the BJP.
Punjab Congress Chief Sidhu slammed his own party’s government in Punjab and praised the BJP over the state assured sugarcane price to drive home the point that farmers’ protest issue in Punjab needs to be resolved immediately.
Sidhu took to Twitter and said, “The sugarcane farmers issue needs to be immediately resolved amicably …. Strange that despite the higher cost of cultivation in Punjab the state assured price is too low as compared to Haryana / UP / Uttarakhand. As torchbearer of agriculture, the Punjab SAP should be better!”

Farmers in Jalandhar have blocked rail tracks and a national highway asking for a price hike for sugarcane. As per the reports by Financial Express, Senior farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that while the meeting was inconclusive, the state government has assured to clear the outstanding arrears of private mills within the next 15 days and those of cooperative to be settled by September first week.
Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that the government’s job is to watch the interests of farmers as well as the industry and cane growers are demanding Rs 400 per quintal.
However, it is not the first time that Sidhu slammed his own government. For an instance, as earlier reported by TFI, Sidhu had slammed his own party’s government over the delay in action on the special task force’s (STF) reports on drugs. He said that it was on the priority of Congress’ under the 18-point agenda, to punish the offenders of the drug trade.
Sidhu had tweeted, “What investigation had Punjab police done? What action has the Punjab govt. taken? Must be brought into the public domain. Since the submission of reports, what further action did the state take in 2.5 years? Govt. must make itself accountable to the public with complete transparency.”

Sidhu had to pay the price for it after he was ejected from the cabinet by two time Chief Minister Amarinder for being extremely vocal against the Punjab government’s functioning and especially Amarinder himself.
The presence of both prominent leaders Sidhu and Amarinder Singh in the Congress party reflects an uneasy truce. The two senior leaders of the Punjab Congress have always had polar views on a range of vital issues.
However, it is quite visible that Sidhu’s patience is running thin and to silence Amarinder, he can go to any extent where he has to praise the BJP while slamming his own party’s government. The infight between these two prominent leaders will ultimately lead to disastrous consequences for the Congress party in upcoming assembly elections of Punjab and will ultimately benefit the BJP.
