Mired in Ashok Gehlot government’s botched up pandemic management, yet another predicament stands at the doorstep of Congress-led Rajasthan. As per latest media reports, the crime rate in the state of Rajasthan has reached scary levels, prompting the opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to launch a scathing attack on the Gehlot administration. Sources state that crime against women has risen by 50% in the state, where seven incidents of gang-rape have been reported in just last 15 days.

BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP from Jaipur Rajyavardhan Rathore on Saturday took the ruling Congress party to the cleaners and alleged that the government had given a free pass to all to commit crime because it wanted to stay in power. Indicating the severity of the law and order situation in Rajasthan, Rathore said “There is a loyalty test in the Government. Be loyal to Chief Minister (Ashok Gehlot) and do whatever you want in your own constituency. This is why the situation has gone from bad to worse.”

Rathore further said that there has been a whopping 37% increase in the crime against women during lockdown. “I am quoting from your (media) reports. In 30 days, 550 cases were reported. A hungry woman begging for food gets raped during the lockdown. A girl who goes to dry clothes on her terrace gets abducted. Don’t stand on a bus stand in Rajasthan because people get abducted from there also. A woman who goes to graze her cows gets kidnapped. These are incidents of gang rapes,” Rathore added.

Rathore was referring to an incident from Alwar, where a 12-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by Aazad, Waseem and Razzak, when she had gone to feed fodder to the cattle. Referring to another incident from Rajasthan’s Kota, Rathore alleged that the state administration was providing legal immunity to a certain community by remaining silent on the issues pertaining to the killing of Hindus at the hands of Muslim miscreants. On July first, 25-year-old Krishna Valmiki was attacked by 6-8 Muslim youths with sticks and iron rods in Kota’s Jhalawar city, the boy succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment thereafter.

“I am not going by religion. There shouldn’t be any discrimination on the basis of religion but those who were involved in the killing were Qureshi, Rayees, Imran, Soheil, Shahid, Akhtar Ali. There is silence, and law and order machinery is not working,” Rathore said. Furthering the attack on Gehlot administration, BJP’s Nupur Sharma dubbed the Congress government as ‘Rapist Government’.

As reported by ABP news, a total of 2,461 rape cases have been reported in the state as of May this year.  6,254 cases were reported pertaining to sexual assault against the women.

This comes after national daily Dainik Bhaskar had unearthed the reports of rampant corruption being practiced in the congress ruled state. A report by Dainik Bhaskar had revealed that the state government bought 35 thousand oxygen concentrators at exorbitant prices and that too when the peak of the second wave had subsided. Now the skyrocketing crime rate in the state implies that Gehlot government has reduced the state to a lost cause altogether.
