The Bharatiya Janata Party has got a resounding success in the election of the District Panchayat President of Uttar Pradesh. Rakesh Tikait, who was leading the farmers’ movement, could not save his stronghold Muzaffarnagar.
As extensively reported by TFI, Rakesh Tikait, the part-time farmer leader and full-time politician on Thursday had a series of tantrum fits, ranging from an unending breakdown to the assault of a youth right in front of him. Perhaps, the product of nepotism is frustrated with the law enforcing agencies coming cracking down hard against him.
On Saturday, when the results of the Uttar Pradesh district panchayat elections were declared, the BJP’s hopes blossomed. The BJP got 67 seats out of 75 in the state, while the opposition got wiped out. All eyes were on the seat of Muzaffarnagar district panchayat, which is considered to be the stronghold of farmer leaders Rakesh Tikait and Naresh Tikait. Both have been leading farmers’ agitations across the country since last year. It is worth noting that 10 Muslim Zilla Panchayat members in Muzaffarnagar voted for BJP in the election for the post of Zilla Panchayat President.
Tikait’s BKU candidate wanted to take on BJP candidate Dr Veerpal Nirwal in this seat, Tikait’s Bharatiya Kisan Union had nominated Satendra Balyan, brother of Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan, as its candidate and the entire opposition supported BKU. The Tikait brothers were hopeful that they would occupy the presidency.
When the results were declared, the defeat of the BKU candidate wasn’t unexpected but the surprising part was that he got only 4 votes. The Tikait brothers, who are leading the farmers’ movement, could not even manage their house and election management.
BJP could win only 13 seats out of 43 seats in Zilla Panchayat but BJP’s management for the post of president was such that 30 members voted in favour of BJP also included 10 Muslim members. On the other hand, Satendra Balyan of the opposition could collect only 4 votes.
The election of Muzaffarnagar District Panchayat had become a question of prestige of Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan. In fact, when the opposition made his brother Satendra Balyan its candidate, it became more challenging for him. There was a party for Baliyan on one side, due to which today he is the Union Minister, on the other hand, the duty of a brother. But Sanjeev Balyan supported the organization.
State Minister of BJP UP and in charge of Muzaffarnagar district Dr Chandramohan says that farmer leaders had worked to mislead the public with their false claims, but today the public is aware and has shown faith in the BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
In Muzaffarnagar, the BJP defeated the Lok Dal’s District President in the election of the Zilla Panchayat and now the election of the President was also a formality. The victory of the BJP candidate was certain. Not only in the district panchayat, but the people will also vote in favour of the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections and will again work to form the government under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya also tweeted on the victory in Muzaffarnagar. He wrote, ‘Rakesh Tikait’s home district Muzaffarnagar was also elected BJP’s district panchayat president. The agitators should now go home.
Tikait who wanted to score some political points in the garb of the farmer’s protest faced a massive defeat at the hands of the BJP and thus, this proves how Tikait’s political journey had ended before it had even started.
