The Mayor office of Edison, a town in New Jersey, USA with a sizeable Hindu population on Wednesday (July 28) recognised July as ‘Hindu persecution awareness month.’ At a time when the lexicon ‘Hinduphobia’ is berated and dismissed by the left-liberal brigade, New Jersey’s fifth-largest municipality accepting it comes as a big breakthrough for the entire diaspora community.
A Twitter handle named ‘Hindu on Campus’ that has worked extensively in the past to bring out stories of Hinduphobia on American University campuses shared the news report.

Mayor Lankey in the official document stated how Hindus had been facing persecution and discrimination over their religious beliefs over the years, “Whereas, Hinduism is one of the world’s major religions, with over 1 billion global adherents; and whereas historically, as well as in the present day, Hindus have faced persecution and discrimination based on their religious beliefs, including in South Asia; and whereas, our own state, New Jersey, witnessed attacks in the late 1980s aimed at Hindu Indian immigrants, which were perpetrated by the Dotbusters…”
He further stated remarked, “Therefore, be it resolved that L. Thomas Lankey, Mayor of the Township of Edison, de hereby proclaim July as Hindu Persecution Awareness Month to memorialize the discrimination and injustice that members of the Hinds faith face, and to reaffirm our township’s commitment the American ideal of the freedom to freely and peacefully practice one’s religion. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have herunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of Edison to be affixed, this 28th Day of July, in the Year Two Thousand and Twenty One,”
Earlier this year, news stories of Hinduphobia from Indiana University made the headlines across the globe. As reported by TFI, a Hindu student at Indiana University was bullied by Aurangzeb-loving Hindu hater Audrey Truschke and other Hinduphobes for writing against Hinduphobia.
Rama Sardar, a freshman student at the University had written an opinion article on the matter after interviewing several Hindu victims on the campus. The article raked in substantial views and went viral overnight. However, after the likes of Audrey pulled the strings, the Indiana Daily Student (IDS) management unceremoniously decided to un-publish the entire article citing a flimsy reason that the ‘edits would be too lengthy anyway’. Moreover, to make the axing of the article legit, the management further claimed that the article did not meet the journalistic ethics and standards.
Audrey is the same vile person who went after Rashmi Samanth, the ex-president-elect of the Oxford University Student Union. She bullied, threatened, ridiculed and forced to resign Rashmi from her post for being a Hindu.
Similarly, after Rutgers University passed the historic resolution to adopt a scholarly definition of Hinduphobia, Audrey even stalked the parents of the students who had attended the ‘Understanding Hinduphobia Conference.’

Hinduphobia is a rampant phenomenon in the West and the fact that certain sections have difficulty even digesting the usage of the word, reeks of xenophobia. Edison has set a template and hopefully, other municipalities and states follow the suit in the USA.
