What was anticipated is finally happening in Punjab. In the name of protesting against the farm laws, the Khalistani elements have once again raised their heads in the state. Recently, in Gurdaspur, an army man was brutally thrashed by a bloodthirsty mob on a false pretext within the Gurdwara premises. He was beaten so brutally that he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. However, forget condemning the dastardly incident, the Khalistani sympathisers are now defending the accused in the incident without any hesitation.

But who was this soldier? Why was he murdered? According to a report by Amar Ujala, the soldier was Deepak Singh, employed with the GREF unit of the Indian Army in Arunachal Pradesh. He was due to return to Pathankot after six months. He had landed at Amritsar airport and had taken a bus to Pathankot. However, he stopped at the wrong depot.

The deceased’s father Onkar Singh said, “Deepak was employed with the GREF of the Indian Army. He was posted in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. He was due to return in six months. He had landed at the Amritsar airport. He took a bus from there and departed for Pathankot. However, by mistake, he dropped off at Kahnuwan Chowk in Gurdaspur. He felt thirsty at 11 ‘o’ clock, so he went to drink water at the Gurdwara Kulliyan wala. At that very moment, some people surrounded him, and accused him of theft. They brutally thrashed him, until he was rescued by the police, who admitted him to the hospital. However, he had succumbed to his injuries by then”.

Onkar further told that when Deepak called him up, he reported that he was being thrashed by some people, who accused him of being a thief. At the same moment, his phone got disconnected, and was reported as switched off. He had a lot of luggage with him, but now nothing has been spotted.

Incensed by the laxity in the proceedings, the aggrieved parents and the villagers from Sarmo Lahri blocked the Pathankot – Amritsar national highway for more than four hours, demanding a proper probe into the murder. They were backed by local MLA from Bhoa, Joginder Pal. At last, when Gurdaspur police registered a case against the accused, the aggrieved villagers relented and opened the road. As of now, Gurjeet Singh and Daljeet Singh have been named as the main accused, and both are absconding. However, the story hasn’t ended here. The Khalistani sympathisers, known for their overt support to anyone vandalizing properties in Delhi in the name of protest against the farm laws have now begun backing the accused without any hesitation. Led by Deep Sidhu, one of the chief accused of the Red Fort violence, currently out on bail, the Khalistani sympathisers are now accusing Deepak Singh, of all things, of ‘desecrating’ the ‘Holy Guru Granth Sahib’. This is a straight white lie, that can deceive no one. However, not many know that such tactics were also used before by dreaded Khalistanis in order to harass the non-Sikh population of Punjab for their selfish gains. This only goes on to prove how under Congress ruled Punjab, the Khalistani insurgents are once again being given a free hand in the name of protest against the farm laws.
