Sometimes, staying put and doing nothing is also equal to doing more than what is necessary. This holds in the case of Mamata Banerjee. The CM of Bengal is now behaving like a petrified kitten, only hours after Central Govt. decided to recall the Chief Secretary of Bengal for her haughty and arrogant behaviour towards the PM in a meeting related to the after-effects of Cyclone Yaas.

To quote an excerpt from Navbharat Times, Mamata tried to plead forgiveness for her actions. She mentioned, “When I reached the venue, my team was told that the PM had already arrived before hand and was in a meeting. We were told to wait outside. After waiting for a while, when we asked for permission again, we were told that nobody could go for another hour” –

One can clearly perceive that Mamata tried to exhibit her arrogance even as she claimed that she was ready to ‘touch PM Modi’s feet’, provided he did not recall the Chief Secretary of Bengal back to Central Government. ‘

But what made the Central Government take such a step? Recently, during a meeting for the relief work and the management of the state post Cyclone Yaas, PM Modi had visited Bengal. Mamata Banerjee, who probably considers herself above PM Modi and possibly even the Indian constitution, made PM Modi wait for more than half an hour, and after that, she just tossed over a couple of files and left.

More than an insult to the PM’s position, this reflected the insecurity of a CM, who is uncomfortable about her position even after her party won 212 seats and created absolute mayhem in the state. As such, the Central Government decided to make her pay for her sins in their own style. They recalled the Chief Secretary of Bengal to the Ministry of Public Grievances and Pensions.

As such, the way Mamata is attempting to salvage her image, which is already in tatters, shows her insecurity, as well as proving the fact that no matter how big she gets a politician, Mamata is not invincible and can be taken to task for her arrogance.
