The race course station will be called the Lok Kalyan Marg Matro station in line with the renaming of Race Course Road the Delhi Metro announced on September 24, 2016. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has begun renaming the station and the first thing to do is replace the sign. The Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station was formerly known as Race Course Metro Station before being changed to the iconic British Road in luxurious Lutyens Delhi in 2016. Aurangzeb Road was renamed in August last year after the former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

The Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station is owned by the Delhi Metro and controlled by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The Central Secretariat station is used as a transfer station for passengers between underground line 2 and line 6. Rajiv Gandhi was the first Prime Minister to reside in 1984 at the former racecourse 7, but it is not the home of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The secretariat building is in the south block of the secretariat building on Raisina Hill in New Delhi where the Cabinet Secretariat works.

The Lok Kalyan Marg metro station was initially known as ‘The Race Course Metro station’, it was changed back in 2016 in line with the recent renaming of the iconic British-era road in posh Lutyens’ Delhi. The Race Course Road was named after the Delhi Race Course, part of the Delhi Race Club, which was established in 1940.

This road houses both the Prime Minister of India’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and the Delhi Gymkhana, which can also be approached from Safdarjung Road. Lok Kalyan Marg is closed for public entry.

On the north-west end, it stretches from a roundabout joining Rajaji Road, Teen Murti Road, Akbar Road and Safdarjung Road. On the south-west end, it stretches up to the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Marg, at the entry of the racecourse.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at a high-level meeting presided by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal changed the name of the iconic road in Lutyens Zone.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) initiated the process in this regard as per the Centre’s directive. The first visible change will be in the form of new station name boards, the DMRC said.

The Lok Kalyan Marg metro station name boards had changed immediately followed by gradual changes in the automatic announcement system, maps as these involve software updates among others.
