Days after a thunderous visit by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath to Kerala for flagging the BJP’s ‘Vijaya Yatra’, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government has decided to withdraw a large bulk of cases against the Sabarimala movement activists, who were incarcerated for merely participating in protests against the Kerala government’s decision of implementing a contentious Supreme Court order allowing women of a certain age bracket to enter the temple. The Left government of the state has conveyed its decision to rescind cases of non-severe nature against Sabarimala demonstrators, although those which the Communists in the state consider of ‘criminal nature’ will continue to be pursued.
For the simple reason of monkey-balancing its way out, the Left government also decided to withdraw cases against anti-CAA agitators. Earlier, the state government was against withdrawing such cases. While the Congress lauded the decision, the BJP said the temple issue should not be conflated with the citizenship law protests. “It is wrong to club the temple issue with the CAA. We want all cases to be withdrawn. Other than police atrocities no other violence took place during the stir,” said BJP state president K Surendran.
Make no mistake, CM Yogi’s visit to Kerala, and the welcoming he received from the state’s Hindus has spooked the Pinarayi Vijayan government like never before, which has now taken to taking ideologically-opposite decisions only to placate the Hindu community. For far too long, the abuse of Hindus in Kerala by the toxic alliance of Communists and Islamists has gone unchecked. However, one visit by Yogi Adityanath has put the Left government of the state in a tight spot. Of course, with barely two months to go for the state elections, the Left government is also trying to remake its image among the Hindu populace of the state.

Targeting the CPI(M) government of Kerala over the Sabrimala issue, Yogi had said, “They (CPM) are working against temples. In UP, the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Ram Temple in accordance with the sentiments of people.” Trying to also wake up the Hindus of the state, Yogi Adityanath added, “Governments led by CPI (M), and Congress do not take any action to solve issues of the people. In 2009, the High Court had stated that love jihad was a conspiracy to convert Kerala into an Islamic state. Successive governments have not only failed to take steps to curb religious conversion but have even adopted a pro-conversion stand. But the UP government has enacted a law against love jihad. BJP is ruling for national security as well as ensuring welfare of every citizen.”
Only an aware Hindu citizenry, which is in the know of the state’s excesses against it, will be able to force governments to behave themselves, especially those which are unduly influenced by Islamists. One visit by Yogi Adityanath seems to have rattled the Left government of Kerala. One need not imagine what a full-blown campaign by the BJP, with maximum focus on Hindutva, will do to the Communists of Kerala.
